Aphantasia

I spent most of my life swearing I do not dream, but realise I do, but not often where I remember unless it is very, very scary and something weird reinforces it as soon as I wake up.

Last week woke up unable to breathe, could not figure it out as I felt my nose running like heck.. Looked down once more awake, CPAP mask full to the top with blood, yet blanket also smeared all the way down to my foot area. Also large really wet area on pillow where I guess mask was resting before I woke up.

Not sure there are images like you may have. I know what 2+2 equals without image, I can describe the UFO I experienced with my first wife and brother and his wife - the same way.. Intellectually, memory as you did when I asked what 2+2 is... Once you reinforce your long term memory I bet you no longer have to see the image of 2+2=4... You just know now... Just like I do..except it is everything I see or read, learn..all to long term memory without the visual first. I am extremely hyper attentive, see much more detail then most people.
So, when you do remember a dream, do you have the visual component with it that you can remember? Are you able to "see" figures, people, etc. within dreamstate?

I know, I know, seems redundant to ask, but just trying to figure out what you "see"...lol

Nothing.. I can tell you facts the same way as the example I used... If I ask you the answer 2+2...what do you see??? I see nothing, nothing ever. No images, pure memory. The answer is 4... The book I read described this and that... I know, I remember

When they asked a famous SciFi writer how she could be so good, so descriptive without seeing it, she wondered why they can't write yet can imagine anything.

How does a blind musician play so well? He can't see the notes on the paper.

What does a blind since birth person see in their mind??? Facts they heard or read , they don't need images to remember or understand, nor dream..What do they see when they dream if the have never seen an image of anything. Can you see the image of something you have never seen??

Does that help??

Actually, yes. The comparison to a blind person adds perspective, Grant. The brain would still process a dream without the visual cues. I may be getting the "vision" of this...or lack thereof, in this case!
