I was really into this in 1977, I read every book there was on it, back then resources were
very few on the subject.
I had already been doing hatha yoga for many years and that involves meditating which seemed
to help as well but the thing that helped the most was lucid dreaming, something I would suggest
to anyone to learn first that was going to work on OBE's.
It took a year of daily/nightly practice before it happened for me, that one time and that was it!
I still have lucid dreams, something that gets better with time I guess.
I have found 'Binaural Beats & Isochronic Tones' to be very helpful as well,
the info and 'tones' are limitless on you tube, wish I had all the resources I have now back in the 70's!

If you're not familiar with these this site is good for a start;
The N.I.T.E. Post: lucid dreaming

As I said the resources are limitless!
It just takes time, practice, Patience and a strong intention!

I have purchased several binaural beats..brain wave CDs and have attempted...
not yet success
however, I ALWAYS think of the "Midwest University Psycology Professor" referenced in Malachi Martin's book "Hostage to the Devil"
.......makes me VERY apprehensive about this.... ????
I am wondering if this is inhibiting my experiencing an "Astrial Projection" type experience....
(for those unfamiliar with....it opened him up to....possession... AND he basically went insane....)

If it's in the back of your mind and causes any fear, even a little, it can definitely be hindering you. Those brains of ours are great at protecting us even when we don't want the help. I can't tell you how to get over this fear except by researching the subject more and reading lots of first hand experiences. Find stuff on the 'silver cord' it might help ease your mind.

The Secrets of Astral Projection: How to Control Your Out of Body Experiences

Astral projection is one way to force an out of body experience to happen. We have learned about this technique from spiritual leaders, prophets and gurus from the past who were able to accomplish amazing feats by utilizing this inner power. There is a proliferation of knowledge collected throughout history from these great people, and now this information is available to the public through variety of resources.

You may be attracted to astral travel to experience a journey to the spirit realm, or achieve emotional transcendence. Whatever your reason for reading this, it is our hope that you can come away from this lesson with the adequate knowledge to perform this ancient technique. We hope to reveal all of the possibilities available to those who have learned how to project their souls out of their physical bodies.

How?
It has been said that we are not our physical bodies, and that we have multiple lives, and that there are multiple dimensions. What we perceive as reality is simply a projection of our consciousness onto the physical plane. When we astral project, our consciousness leaves this physical plane and projects onto the astral plane.

This environment can manifest in a few different ways. It can bear much resemblance to the normal physical plane, or it can appear completely abstract. It could be populated by other astral bodies, or it can be barren of other consciousness.

It can be beautiful or horrifying. What is common is that normal physical laws do not apply. Also, you r spirit remains connected to your physical body through a sort of umbilicus, commonly referred to as a ‘silver cord.’

Most astral projectors experience this phenomena by accident. Some enter this alternate reality during a particularly intense dream sequence. Some who are very ill have reported having the out of body experience, and some have had a near-death experience where they have left their bodies only to come ‘back to life.’

However, with practice, one can learn how to leave the body of their own accord. There seems to be more or less of a consensus as to the process:Set and Setting: It’s important to be in a state of heightened awareness and relaxation both. For this reason, conscious astral projection is best practiced in the morning after waking. It is possible to project at will anytime, once you become adept.

For beginners, dawn just after awakening seems to be the most powerful time to start practicing. Also, it is important to be in a quiet zone away from the influence of others. Lie on your back in a quiet comfortable place free of external stimuli.

It is important to note at this point that what you are about to embark upon can be a frightening experience, and it’s important to feel safe. Imagine yourself bathed in white healing light, and that there is a sort of circle of protection surrounding your body. Be positive and confident that this will be a good experience.

State of Body and Mind: You are lying on your back with your arms and legs spread out a bit and your eyes closed. It may help to flex and unflex the muscles of your arms and legs in order to find a state of physical relaxation. Breathe deeply, releasing tension in your shoulders and back. Get to an eventual state where the breathe captures your focus. If you get preoccupied with outside thoughts or worries, bring the focus back to the breath. Relax.

Hypnotic State: Let your mind approach the edge of sleep, but retain consciousness. At the edge of wakefulness is a hypnotic state necessary for astral projection.

To get there without drifting off, try this: with your eyes closed, let your mind wander to a specific part of the body, such as your hand, until you can visualize it perfectly. Try to ‘flex’ this body part in your head, without actually physically moving. After this, move your focus to the rest of the body. Do this until you find yourself able to ‘move’ your whole body with your mind.

Vibration: At this point, you should find yourself in a deep state of meditation. It feels like a strange in-between area where you are sort of dreaming, but still conscious and aware. Many report feeling a sort of ‘vibration’ throughout their body. Don’t be afraid of it, as fear may cause the meditation to dissipate.

Move: At this point, harness the way you moved your body parts with your mind. Visualize the room you are in and your body rising up from where you are lying. Observe where you are. Walk away from your body, turn around, and take a look at yourself.

Success!: At this point, you are gazing upon your body and can distinctly feel that your consciousness is separate from it. You may see hints of the shimmering silver umbilicus that connects your astral body to your head. If you didn’t make it this far, don’t despair! I

t takes many people a lot of practice to get to this point, although some can get here easily and naturally. Everyone is different! If you’re struggling with the final step, go back to step three and practice moving individual body parts.

Return: Since your soul remains connected to your physical body, returning is simple. Let astral body be guided back to your body by the force which connects the two entities. Once you ‘feel yourself,’ try moving (physically) your fingers and toes, then your arms and legs, then your whole body.

Explore
Sometimes, once you feel as if you’ve mastered the art of projecting your astral body out, it can be an important thing to verify that it is true, to throw doubt out of the equation.

Once you get over the step where you can see your physical body lying there, try something different next time. Instead of looking back at yourself, go on a little quest. try to find something that you didn’t notice before in your physical body, examine it thoroughly, then return. When you are back in your body, go find the thing again. Is it the same as it was in your astral body? If so, then we can claim success!

At this point, you will find that you can explore further and further during your astral adventures. Try to find locations with which you are totally unfamiliar. They could be quite far away.

Then upon re-entering your physical body, you can go re-verify the details as above in order to reinforce your developing skills. As you get into more and more strange places, you may feel the urge to be frightened. It’s important to remember that no harm will come to you as long as you believe that no harm will come.

Involve Others
A really enjoyable aspect of astral projection is sharing the experience with others. Exploring is one thing. Exploring with a buddy is something completely more enriching. You may find that another person will help you expand your own abilities by revealing possibilities that you didn’t think of before. For example, you may not have been so engaged in exploration that astral-body possibilities didn’t occur to you. Then after teaching your friend, they teach you how to fly!

Going a step further, try projecting with a lover. Astral sex lacks the limitations our physical bodies and minds can sometimes impose. This can be a truly extraordinary and mind-blowing experience!

Heal
The practice of astral healing has also been documented pretty thoroughly. To do this, envision the sick person while you are projecting. It doesn’t matter what they are doing at the time, just imagine them doing something specific, like resting in bed. Ask spirit for protection and guidance for the healing process.Whatever guiding spirit is helping you can provide a healing energy. Imagine it as a white light. Try to hold this white light in your hands. Now, since time and distance are nil, imagine yourself placing your healing hands upon the sick and pour the love and light into them. Have pure intentions and feel nothing but love filling your body and passing it on.

It’s a real trip to get reports back of spontaneous healing! No need to tell, it can be your secret.

Infinite Possibilities
We’ve provided some examples of the types of things that can be done while in the astral plane. However, this is just a scratching of the surface.

You may find yourself in contact with entities that are completely foreign. Try interacting with them and learn from them! You may find an entrance to a parallel universe or different dimension altogether. What will you find?

Whatever you do, trust yourself, believe that you are safe and that you are doing good for the universe. You’re helping humanity realize their actual potential, one person at a time!
