In yesterdays chat Stevedog talked about his sense of smell. I found this interesting as I have what my Doctor calls "Hyper Sensitivity." Where all of my senses are hyper stimulated. So for me multiply by 20.
Many times it has come in handy, however many times it drives me crazy especially my hearing :/ I swear I can hear a mouse fart from 5 miles away lol :p
My son has sensory processing disorder, which sounds like what you are describing. He is high function autistic, and many on the spectrum battle with this disorder, depending on how bad it is. My son cannot be in a room with a lot of noises, echoing, etc. Going into a box store is impossible. He can't even stand the beeping from the microwave timer! All his clothes have to be super soft or he can't tolerate them on his skin, and he also gets overwhelmed with too much visual input at once. Of course, his nose is also like a blood hound like mine and smells can irritate him.

I am with him on soft clothes and a strong nose! I can get that with too much sound, especially when I am on location and I have those damn earphones on for 14 hrs a day. On my days off work I usually do not speak
