Checking Out...

I heard an old guy on a local radio talk show say sooner or later you will have to pay an extra free to use a manned check out aisle.
Found tonight when I put in a pick up order they put a $25 extra "weight hold" on my order in case something weighs more than stated. Now, if a head of cabbage and a small pork roast are THAT much over the advertised cost, I don't want them!

IT APPEARS THE WORLD HAS SWIFTLY GONE SELF CHECK-OUT!
HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT THIS NEW WAY OF SHOPPING?
AND WHAT HAPPENED TO CUSTOMER SERVICE WHEN I WASN'T LOOKING?
DO YOU LIKE THIS OR HATE THIS AND HOW MANY OF YOUR STORES HAVE ALREADY SWITCHED OVER TO IT?

I used to get paid minimum wage to do this. If they pay me minimum wage for shopping then I'm all for it, otherwise they can go to hell. (Or stop firing their employees. Either is fine by me.)

People were in an uproar to raise wages...this is part of that fallout. Not to blow up a whole political/ethical debate on zero skill to skilled to far more skilled ratios and earning your wage due to experience not 'even the 4th place guy/girl needs a trophy mentality'

Well. Now you have gone and done it. lololol... 'blowup'

I'm pulling back... pulling...pulling... Nope. 'hiccup' 'sorry'

This has nothing to do with wages. When multi-billion dollar corporations resist fair wages... this is about greed... and slavery... and... well... fair wages. This is about corporations TELLING the public that paying someone 15.00 an hour will only hurt them... and yes sir it does...

Here is the Truth. That is all a load of CR*P.

Simply stating... those self check-out aisles are about PROFIT. AND, yes, less employees... less overhead... STILL prices rise... STILL profits go up and up and up.

If they can pay someone to look over the self-pay aisle... they can pay someone to check me out. I don't do self-check... I ask to be double bagged... I expect that when I spend my very very VERY small income on stuff that I HAVE to have to survive... after these industry's have USED Covid to raise prices at least 300% in the name of... they BETTER check me out.

Don't make me kill a Deer. I will ya know.

I agree there is serious corp greed. But part of that greed is having to pay people far more money for a job they aren't doing. I mean go in for a cup of coffee and someone making 15 an hour and they have a hard time pouring a basic cup of coffee lol. So corp cut hours back and replaces 'dead weight' with annoying machines lol. There's blame aplenty and we have to pay the price as consumers.

Ahhhh... BUT... WHY are they paying people for jobs they can't do? Or won't do? That thing would go on HR...

I agree that there a whole bunch of "on the cell phones and couldn't give a s*it" employees out there. So... maybe they should NOT be there. And then... there is a matter of training. Ya know... there are very few checker's anywhere that know how to bag your groceries (or are given time to do it correctly... It is all about 'time management') ... this tells me... they could have used 5 minutes of training before they are put to the job. THAT all is on HR. I mean... I have a daughter-in-law making $65,000 a year as HR in Walmart's Corporate (headquarters about 30 miles from here)... makes me wonder what the f*ck she is being paid for.

I also know that almost ALL Corporate jobs are going to overseas visas. When I ask why? Her reply is... Well... there is no Colleges in America putting out candidates we feel can handle the jobs. BS.

Look. That the dude pouring coffee can't handle the job... is not and should not be put onto the price passed to the consumer. That's ridiculous. Either don't hire him... train him... or get rid of him.

Making me go through a self-check out while the few employees you are employing stand around and pick there nose's is NOT a fair deal. THOUSANDS of people are looking for work. How about that $65,000 they are paying their HR goes to DOING THEIR JOBS... instead of looking for those they can bring into the Country on Work Visas to deal cheaply and (totally asininely) with supply chains and bigger and better and putting satellites into the atmosphere so you got ... Walmarts Sky Cams.

Sorry Selectric... I am not buying it. Employee wages are only a problem if you continue to hire and NOT train nor truly care about those employees who uphold your company instead of herding through those who either can't or won't do the job. Job turn-over is the single largest cost to a company. It has always been so and remains so.

Search out GOOD employee's... train them... TREAT them well... and they are all in. A good company STILL knows that the consumer (the rest of us) is paying for that Skycam.

So now... we have hiring online... just apply online... the computer hires... THEN... OMG... HR might interview... but hey... the computer says.

After that... no one in corporate cares. They got bigger fish to fry.

Not to blow up a whole political/ethical debate on zero skill to skilled to far more skilled ratios and earning your wage due to experience not 'even the 4th place guy/girl needs a trophy mentality'. Plus Covid really changed our world. Never would've imagined how different it became, though parts are returning to 'normal'. Did i mention the whole bring your own bag thing? Ugh.
I felt put out about bring your own bag for a really short while and then saw the sense in it. It really is totally stupid to have a new bag every time you want to put something in a bag. Much less one made of 100% indestructible poison. Carrying a bag to the shop took some getting used to, but it's just a habit thing. My bags look a whole lot better now, make more sense and I'm not going to have to inhale them in twenty years. I can also put other things in them rather than have stupidly bulging pockets, thus preserving my Adonis-like* silhouette without the embarrassment of that man-bags fad or the rubbish attempt of bum bags/ fanny packs.
Just have a bag. Genius. I can't believe I had to have it forced on me.

*the myth of Adonis is about him dying. He is dead. I am skinny. Technically I am better looking, so just go with it.

In my experience it's good people being laid off at a bad time and everyone having to wait to do a paid job for free while some poor slob gets paid the same as a checkout job for watching a dozen people doing their friends old jobs as if they could somehow stop people from stealing. In the UK they get to sit at checkouts and actually do something while having conversations with customers. Now they have to stand up for hours doing nothing but fix technical problems with no talk or contact.
Companies ditch people who slack at the first opportunity. This is pure greed and just wrong. The main supermarket near me removed most of the checkouts at the worst point of the pandemic, forcing everyone to wait in line for ages instead of just passing though.
*&&%^%^s, the lot of them, and not worth making excuses for.
