Was there something in the woods?

a falling down type place...
Ran into a few of those through life. One of them a few of us went inside, stupid kids lol. Lucky we didn't fall through the floors or the house come down on us. May have picked up a wanderer from that place after it was burned to the ground. I never did determine that, but i guess who cares now as all's been quiet on that front

I'm not sure it will ever 'be quiet'. There are just place's that remain... house or not... that is your jurisdiction Selectric. Of all the 'Chaser's' ... I consider you True. You are on a Path/Mission... I can not speak to your world, but I know you live in it and I respect that.... completely.

I had a very similar experience with something that sounded like it was walking in the wood with me, then stopped when I did and vice versa. It usually happens when there is high winds, I've determined that when I'm walking I'm keeping up with the leaves that are blowing correspondingly with the wind, when I stop as a gust of wind blows, it doesn't have this added affect with my footsteps as I crunch the leaves and sounds like a bunch of leaves are blowing by, I feel like it's this natural optical illusion, it's pretty neat but hard to explain, the way you explain in detail about your experience sends chills down my spine though.

I don't believe it was wind, perhaps. The sounds were in the woods while we were on the blacktop and roughly 30ft away. It didn't happen all the time, but enough to make you know lol. Was a very strange place to grow up for sure.

Your story still sounds very interesting, have you ever thought of walking through those woods today, if you're still in the area? It would be cool for an update if you still hear the same noises there.

I grew up in a place much like you described. Very rural! Not even a police officer. It was an odd town and still is. Only thing new is a dollar store and they tore down the 7up bottling factory. I went back last year for the 1st time in 30yrs? Lots of Native American history there. The towns name is Saxton and it's in PA. Lots of odd things and stories there.
Oh! They now have 2 police officers 1 is part time....lol
