Run!

Was once chased by a small herd of cows and a rogue donkey.

I think the very worst is horse flies, though. They're awful and so persistent - they won't be batted away and just keep coming. They can pierce your clothing and you can actually feel it when they bite you. Then you get a nasty, itchy lump for several weeks. Horrible things! Have had a few of those bite me.
We have something bigger than a horsefly here in MI. We call them deer flys or B52 bommers. They leave a shadow when they fly over lol. I hit them out of the air or slap them off the horse, because their bites are bloody.

RE: the shark I mentioned above:

We were in Monterey Bay, Calif in a small outboard about 12 feet long and quite a ways out but in sight of shore. We had done this several times before. The bay is very deep, one of the deepest in the world and there is no telling what you might encounter there. My father, mother and brother were with me in the small boat.

After fishing for several hours a shark appeared and took great interest in us circling the boat and nudging it. At one point we could see its length was equal to our boat. It was dark gray on top and I saw a flash of white when it rolled to show its underside. We didn't know what it wanted at first.

Earlier that day we had caught several wolf eels but threw them back because we didn't think they had any value. But, my dad decided to keep one to see if it was good eating. It was about 3-4 ft long and he had it on a rope over the side (a bad idea, we learned) and we had forgotten about it. Anyway, the shark circled us several times and then grabbed the eel in one gulp and its bite snipped through the rope like it wasn't there. Then it took off.

My mother was in quite a state at that point so that was the end of the day's fishing and we never fished there again. (Too bad, I thought. It's a really cool place.)

Wow, good thing you weren't swimming!

They use them in Africa to guard stock against predators, even cheetahs. This one was lucky he didn't end up in a burrito, lol.
The idea of a donkey, called a "burro" in Spanish, being used to make a burrito is way funnier to me than it should be. I'm adding it to the Bilingual section of my Dad Jokes list.

I live next to a creek, and last year a skunk apparently drowned upstream, but ended up here. I started noticing the smell, and I realized it wasn't going away.

So finally I held my breath, and using gloves, went and picked it up, and put it in a big trash bag. Poor thing was still clutching a branch in its little dead paws. I didn't want to put it in the regular dumpster, for obvious reasons, so I called the landlord and told him about it.

His first question was, "Are you sure it's a skunk?"........(face palm).....Yes, nothing else smells like that!

Last year when my brother was at the Mayo clinic for a few months I took care of his house and got the mail, etc. His back yard is next to my back yard and we have a gate between them. His wife has a horse and stores the hay in a big area that has a roof and tarps instead of walls. She put out some poison for the mice before they left. I used to let my dog run in their yard while I was in the house taking care of the plants etc and one day I saw her running around with something in her mouth. I told her to drop it and she did eventually. It was a desicated skunk that must have eaten the mouse poison. I had to get a glove and put it in the dumpster. It was just the skin and hair - still very smelly, flat like a peice of cloth. I had only seen mice like that after they ate decon before.

This is another one we don't have. Have you ever smelled them and is it as awful as people say?
Oh yes it is. There have been many that have been run over on roads and you cannot mistake that smell even before you see it. Also if you or even a pet ever have the misfortune of being sprayed by one, it's not fun removing that odor. One of the houses i lived in we had that odor in the house. No idea how it got inside but there was no evidence outside nor was the smell.

Horse flies are horrible. Green heads, 'no-see-ums' same thing. Then there are the black flies lol.

I hate rat poison. It kills too many other animals. Getting a good barn cat or using other deterrents is the humane way to go.

A mate went to Mexico and actually had donkey baritos, that's where I got this from, lol. Yeah it makes you wonder.
