We had several different stations that broadcast the school closings. One only broadcasted news, and the time and weather every ten minutes. I doubt they are around anymore!

Here in the US, we've had some nasty weather in the past few months. What's the worst weather event you've ever personally experienced, and where?
We had a derecho blow through Iowa last summer...it devastated crops and scared the hell out of a lot of people. Few years back we had a tornado touch down south of town. It destroyed much of the small town I grew up in, I was living a few miles north and slept through it (3rd shifter). It was surreal seeing the town I grew up in destroyed.

We had a double derecho hit here a couple weeks ago with substantial damage done north of us.

In April 1974 a series of massive tornadoes went through the area, one of them destroying Xenia, the nearest town to us. It looked like a warzone.

The worst was a heatwave about 3 years ago, if it got below 37C you were dancing, most days were over 40C and I had no air con.

I think that excessive heat is the hardest for me to bear. Cold can be dangerous, as can heat, but I would rather bundle up and stay indoors than put up with high temps.

Same here, it seems the older you get, the less you can handle the heat. It got that bad my brain wasn't functioning properly.

I can't imagine being suspended for wearing pants. Amazing how goofy this world was and still is.
I am not a big feminist by any means, I believe we all have our roles to play in a balanced society, however the rights of women in the past were terrible. Rules that had no purpose but to suppress. I think that may be where the line in the sand is.
