Just wanted to introduce you all to our latest team member - USR1 (or "User 1"):

USR1, or Ultra-Sound Radar (Unit) 1, is a test piece to see if we can interact with entities utilising Ultrasound. In theory, Ultrasound will only reflect off solid matter. So, if we deploy them on an investigation, and we record anomalous readings that can be substantiated with video (showing there is actually nothing in the area, that we can see, to return a result), then potentially we have some data to theorise that entities, or at least some of them, do have some kind of mass - and one that can reflect Ultrasound.

USR1 is an Arduino based unit that sends data into a PDE program, and through a script, gives us a visual output on a device (i.e. laptop):

We will be trialling USR1 on some upcoming investigations to determine if this could be a viable tool for detecting anomalies. They have a number of scripts (known as sketches in the Arduino world) that allow them to cover and detect up to 1m, 2m and 4m distances. Consisting of the control unit itself (Arduino Uno), the Ultrasound TX and RX unit, a breadboard and cabling, there is no additional equipment or programming that can cause any false readings on the device - it purely relies on the sending and the return of, and the resulting measurement, of reflected Ultrasonic waves.

We will update this post with any interesting data we find during our trials and, should anyone like any more details on this project with regards to its construction and the coding, feel free to drop us a message or leave a reply in this post.
