Retirement?

the "old" are in the way and gee, why don't you just die and get out of the ecosystem. (Sorry for my bluntness, but I got that exact line from someone not long ago.) Very disturbing.
WOW

Yup....that was a phone response from a "service" person. Obviously he was not happy with me. I would have preferred an F you from him but nope...he had to go there. I just hung up. And for the record, I had been polite and nice in my request.

i honestly dont know what to say, not much will set me off, but people being treated badly or like they are less than or below someone else, and with no respect, that is one of the few things that i cant ignore. sorry that you had to go through that. totally unacceptable

Thank you, Paul. I spent a few minutes feeling destroyed then got mad and called his boss. Pretty sure his day went worse than mine, but that is a tone I'm seeing more and more out there. And I'm not the only one who has had that attitude displayed toward them, sadly. I still have hope for humanity! Somedays the bad humans show their butts.

I want to open up a gym. And I'm going to have the cleanest locker room in the world ! And the women's locker room is going to be top-notch. And then I'm going to have a patio table outside with a Chiinzzano umbrella. And then we sit outside with all of my pals , smoke cigars, and pretend that we are in the Chicago outfit.

great idea Paint, i ran a dojo back in the day and have taught off and on throughout the years since. have actually been seriously toying with the idea of opening another up for the past couple years. i would do it before retirement though (within the next couple years) to take me into the retirement years. so i was actually kinda, sorta, serious in my first post to this thread.....lol.

Honestly, I don't know if I'll have that luxury. An old friend of mine told me to start up an IRA or Roth IRA when I was about 19 or 20 and I have yet to save a dime. I'm 40 and it's one of my biggest regrets.

I look forward to getting back to making pottery, and organizing my junk, working in the yard and planting a bigger garden. Also I look forward to being able to travel without worrying about when I have to be back. I plan on retiring by the beginning of next year.

That is a huge part of it, Oz. There's an attitude out there that is showing up more and more...that the "old" are in the way and gee, why don't you just die and get out of the ecosystem. (Sorry for my bluntness, but I got that exact line from someone not long ago.) Very disturbing.
I saw it back before 2010 when I was in my 50's and I would have a project for my department that overlapped a different department with 22 year olds right out of college. Any information I shared was ignored. Later when I was moved to support their software I saw how much money those boys had wasted because they ignored me, and not only that but angry clients. I don't work for that company any more.

As for the doctors, they have been trained to keep a chart in their head - female, over 50, over weight give them cholesterol medicine whether they need it or not.

Very true and much of it is run by algorithms and computers these days. Input stats, output plan of care and meds.

Good to hear you are looking forward to retirement and have plans that sound really good!
