Are Mothman reports being covered up?

The best reason ever - us.

Mothman, The Rake, Bigfoot - could you imagine society finding out that these things actually existed?
I get it, I even doubt the existence of some of these and I have a pretty open mind, lol.

i would love to have proof of such creatures being found but as it stands presently they just dont exist. the government has no interest or even a plan on finding what is just "urban legend" or scary stories. sadly with the improvements of tech happening at such a rapid rate the possibility of these beings being real diminishes every year, if not faster. cameras are everywhere now, and on every person 24 hours a day. street cams, car cams, trail cams, phones, etc... yet still no positive proof. add that with no fossils of a great ape species EVER being found in north america, no tools, nothing..... with the re-introduction of wolves in the west and the possible run in with grizzlies, brown bear etc.. there should be skeletal remains at some point found just from predation. then there is the food source problem such an apex predator would require. in the early 20th century man alone nearly wiped out the bison and deer population of the united states. even today there are only roughly 25 million deer in the united states. (with on average 100,000 being harvested by hunters every year..) sure these beings could be vegetarians but that is unlikely due to the amount of energy spent versus time spent eating to stay nourished. they dont farm or settle in villages. hunter gatherers stay on the move and couldnt remain hidden for long. i want to believe, but unfortunately it is looking less and less like this is going to go in our favor anytime soon. the science just isnt there and the divide just gets wider as time goes on.
im speaking mainly of bigfoot here, but the same can be said of any apex predator cryptid. i dont think the gov. has a clue on any of the supposed types.

I don't get this. If Mothman reports were going directly to some government agency, be it local, state, or federal, then I might could see a potential for cover up. The reports are going to the likes of Stickle, Coleman, and Gordon, etc, however. With guys like that running podcasts and blogs, how are "they" going to cover up sighting reports? Has anyone of that ilk ever claimed they are being pressured to cover up anything reported to them?

Reports aren't covered up. Otherwise, how would we know about it at all? There are reports galore. Reports can always be denied or called a hoax or invalidated one way or another. Reports are no problem.

Just as long as there is no really convincing evidence to go along with them. Then ... well, that's another matter, That's when the old bag of tricks comes into play.

not possible, in todays world good clear photos could not be covered up like maybe in years past. the "men in black" couldnt get there fast enough....lol... evidence is now instantly uploaded and released, shared millions of times in the blink of an eye, and you cant possibly keep such a secret from millions of people. just not likely. to think this, is in my belief just believing the creepy pastas and urban legends of gov. conspiracy that flood youtube and other platforms. police dept's, forestry personell and others have no secret knowledge of cryptids in the woods. half of my family works forestry in tennessee, deep forestry, wardens and fire personnel, I have many prior service friends who work state patrol and other law enforcement positions across the country. no big secrets on monsters to watch for. I would say its a safe bet that there is no government cover-up's in play.

If these things are interdimensional, which is my own theory, there would be no "evidence" to leave behind. Pop in, pop out. And if they are tied to the UFO phenom, well, there you have it. I'm in the camp that these things are all tied together.

Now, as for the idiots fighting about reports and who's King of the Cryptos? They will continue to in-fight and any actual "research" as to what the phenomena truly might be won't happen. I've had a personal run in with one of those "researchers" out there and the report sites are all about how many hits they get and how much money they can make.

Do you think any of them make up cryptid report sightings, or knowingly post sighting reports that are hoaxes, to get more clicks?

It is my belief that they will report just about anything for content. Which is why you don't see a lot of cryptid reports here because I try to screen those out. Some do make an effort to do good reporting, don't get me wrong. But there are those that simply report anything they receive.

My feeling is if the person reporting will ID themselves to the investigator, even if they want the report to be published anonymously, that is the first step of a valid report. Somebody saw something and is confident enough to be ID'd. Too many anonymous reports out there with no way to follow up, which is the doorway for hoaxers.
