Sweep rates

I prefer a 50 milisecond sweep rate, which translates to 20 sweeps per second. The SB-11 will sweep this fast.

100 milisecond sweeps, the fastest that the SB-7 can go, is ten sweeps per second and that is slow enough that pieces of words from earthly broadcasts can muddle real evidence. Some really good evidence has been collected at this sweep rate, however. It depends on how active the radio band is at any given venue, and the local reception. But my basic guideline is, the faster the sweep, the better.

Try different sweep rates, what works for me may not work for you.

Titch can expand on this when he wanders in.

I want to take this opportunity to clarify something.

Radio scanning-type spirit boxes do NOT produce evidence by spirits picking pieces of words from broadcasts.

The radio broadcasts themselves are not even required. A quiet radio band will produce evidence even better than a crowded one. The best, clearest spirit box evidence, for us, has typically come from inside buildings or basements that effectively shield the device from receiving any human broadcasts.

All the spirits need is a working radio. The sweep function is just a tool to help separate real evidence from human words and music.

In have a Faraday pouch that seems to control the amount of human broadcasts pretty well. Thank you for the good info! ;)

Thank you for explaining this. I think I have heard tv people explain it saying the words were picked out. Your explanation makes much more sense.

You would think these people would do their homework. I've heard the stars of these shows get technical descriptions completely wrong time after time. I think some of them are as baffled by consumer-grade technology as my dog.

A good, knowledgeable gear tech is worth their weight in gold on an investigation. Setting up, tearing down, trouble shooting and to help interpret data hits when necessary.

Everybody wants to carry around a cool piece of gear but few want to know how it works- or even how to charge the batteries, lol.

When people say it picks out words to communicate, are they just getting a spirit box confused with an ovilus ? ;th

That's a possibility, but when they are holding a spirit box in their hand while they speak, there really isn't an excuse IMO.
