I don't think this is paranormal but I've lived in various areas of Oz and the wildlife's attitude, birds in particular, mimics the human population there. The Blue Mountains and the birds feed from your hand but the further out west you go the more aggressive the animals and humans are. It's just something I've observed and never heard of anyone else reporting it. Maybe it's politically incorrect these days, lol but wondering if anyone else has seen this.

that is a valid observation. ive noticed similar differences between city life and rural or farm living. the animals in the rural areas are more trusting and sociable than those in the city areas. except maybe the large parks where they feel safer and less threatened. animals learn quickly who they can trust and who is a threat i think.

The collective, pervasive energy of any community will have an effect on behavior of all who live there, animals as well as people, IMO. You can feel it as you enter some small towns, even before you speak to anyone.

Oz, I believe you are right on with this. There is an energy that most certainly can be felt from one area to another. And it can change abruptly from one area to the next! I have been in very calm areas and crossed a property line and "felt" a jolt.

I lived next door to a very mean hearted, nasty lady for years. She used to be very upset the squirrels and birds were not in her yard, but in mine. Honestly, you could feel the difference between the two properties like you hit an electric fence. The animals must have sensed it as well.

When I lived in a college town in Florida, I noticed that the wildlife (such as it was) seemed more aggressive. The crows screeching sounded like they had mini microphones, and even the regular bird song was louder than I was used to. I wondered if they had evolved to be louder because they couldn't be heard over all the loud music that the students were playing.

This is what I was thinking about it but being over sensitive I thought maybe I was being paranoid. Maybe if you are thinking of moving to an area you should check the local birds first, the feathered kind I mean, lol.

I guess I've had the opposite experience. In the apartment neighborhood where I live, the squirrels are very trusting, and will come right up to you and eat nuts out of your hand, and in store parking lots, birds almost totally ignore you, letting you walk up close to them as they pick up crumbs and small scraps of food. This is the biggest town in over 50 miles. From my experience, animals are more wild, cautious, and more anxious in the country.

Not if you have feeders out! My dad would feed squirrels and chipmunks out of his hand. His energy was so mellow and kind they had no fear of him.

My opinion:
People basically have two personalities -- the visible social veneer and the true personality which lies beneath. The two can be completely different. Normally, we don't see the true personality unless the person is stressed to the point of revealing it. But, with dog owners, you can see that hidden personality by observing how their dog behaves. Dogs have a knack for perceiving and adopting the true personality of their owner. So, you can have a smiling and seemingly friendly person with a dog that snarls and barks at anyone who approaches and you'll know what that person is really like.
