Watching that video brought back memories of 9/11.

I agree we'd not allow our pilots to fly this mission during peacetime. That said, the C-17 was designed as a battlefield tactical transport, designed to get in and out of tight combat areas. With a fly-by-wire control system and no cargo and a limited fuel supply, it's going to be lightweight and surprisingly nimble for an aircraft of this size.

I would bet that's not a real a/c, or even a model representing a real or developmental a/c. I think it's calibration shape used for radar cross section testing, or "pole cat" as the RCS guys call them. If this was an actual classified a/c, there's no way it would have been that accessible.

Thanks for the insight! I had no clue about RCS or pole cats. Learning something new here.
