Hi folks, I'm about to share one of my experiences. An experience that has left me with questions.

My hopes are that someone one here might have heard of a similar story and/or can point me in the right direction.

A couple years ago during a hot summer I was traveling and working a physically demanding job.
The day of my experience that left me riddled our team was loading a trailer.
I remember the two oldest of our 5 member team were lifting up a heavy wooden dresser. One of them was struggling which prompted the other to say: let (my name) carry it. And so I did. I guess I'm relatively strong but dont like to brag about it or shove it in peoples faces. As we were loading the dresser in the trailer 2 other members of the team were in there as well.

I think there were females close by which caused some team members in the trailer to grunt on purpose. I think this was partly a joke and partly to attract attention from the females, as to say look at us being strong lifting heavy stuff.. I was carrying the end of the dresser that entered the trailer last, and so did I. I remember thinking some of the grunts were way too exaggerated compared to their strength and physical output throughout the day. Anyway, I decided to let out a grunt too. I wanted it to be low key and not put that much effort in it but still have presence. What happened next though shocked everybody. before my grunt it was like as if I fully relaxed everything. without meaning to, involuntary I let out this sound, a sound that sends shivers through your spine. The sound I let out was that of a big wild cat, something like a tiger or leopard I concurred after looking up different cat growls on YouTube. When I let out the sound everyone became quiet. I myself was shocked and riddled. Not long after the growl I tried to replicate it and do it again, while knowing it happened completely out of my control. the following grunt was moderately impressive but nowhere nears as intimidating as the growl was. I have no doubt that if someone was standing next to the trailer on the outside they would swear there was a big wild cat was inside.

I asked them if my grunt came anywhere near the growl. On which the replied: no, breaking their silence followed by me telling them I was clueless as to what just happened.

What makes this experience of mine stand out to me compared to other ones Ive had is the fact that it happened broad day light and there were 3 witnesses. I was sober and not under the influence of any substances. So there is no doubt it was real and actually happened.

Ive asked myself many questions about what this could mean for me but haven't found any answers.

That's a fascinating story, I can't recall hearing another one like it. As far as you know, did all three witnesses hear the same sound? Also, at the time were you dealing with any respiratory issues or do you have a history of respiratory issues?

As far as I know all 3 did hear the same sound. I had zero doubts about that.. I wasn't dealing with any physical issues at that time, in fact I felt very fit..

The only time I've heard of something like this is when someone was under extreme pressure/fear, like it's the beast within, scary stuff.
Do you recall where you heard of something like this?

I didn't feel under pressure much. I worked hard but enjoyed the job, the traveling. I'd say this was a period in my life where I felt quite at peace. I was going with the flow. In my experience letting the universe decide what did or not happen to me. As a result we had quite some rock paper scissors moment.. there was this 1 guy I've never lost to which he remarked himself. He asked me to shoot casually. he probably wanted to win then and there just to see if he could. I didn't shoot as there was no reason for me to.

Me making the animal sound might not have been the only time I manifested something physical involuntary. There is this one ex i broke up with that said she saw my eyes turn all black. I was distraught at the moment but also had this feeling there was no other day. I can not say with certainty this happened because she was the only one who saw it and was distraught too. To be fair, I got really dark brown eyes. After almost 5 years together you'd think she knows my eyes though. Even though it might have just been my pupils dilating. She did say in her experience it was like someone else was talking for me. but yea being so emotional she might have seen/thought things that weren't there maybe..

testosterone. combined with the presence of cute girls and the competition of other males can do some odd things to a growin' body.... but being serious im with duke in not hearing of this type thing being a particular phenomena. any other similar happenings to compare to?

I was in a life threatening position and a growling voice came out of my mouth, it wasn't mine. I remember this but also my eyes turned and the people threatening fled the scene. I was told about my eyes from a friend who was there and they said they were goat like and scared them more than the people threatening us. Maybe your experience is a completely different thing.

Do we, in stressful situations, open up and channel something? It's been noted that in situations such as a mother lifting a car by herself off her child that they are noted to have facial changes and make guttural sounds. Just a thought here. Or do we revert to our more animal instincts in that moment?

I think you nailed it, with the animal instincts Debi.

I like that theory, like a natural form of protection. I was convinced at the time, and up to now that it was something much worse because it's the total opposite to my usually demeanor.

You also have to consider this with the eyes:

The fight-or-flight response dilates your pupils, which allows more light to enter your eyes so that you can see your surroundings better. ... When your body initiates the fight-or-flight response, your body is designed to pump out adrenaline and keep your pupils dilated until the threat is gone

This could make it look like your eyes have gone black.
