Fall Favorites

All of what Debi said. Also, I love the smell of the bonfire smoke as people start burning their garden waste at the end of the season. Also love the smell of the leaves and damp earth. The smells of the different seasons are a big thing for me.

Bonfire Night is my favourite celebration of the year and occurs in Autumn, not long after Hallowe'en (another favourite!). I love wrapping up warm in winter woolies and going for long autumn walks in the country. I love the beautiful colours of the autumn leaves.

I love that my cat starts to get her winter coat and finally stops moulting all over the house!

Love the start of "good telly season" too...

What I don't like is the sense of sadness I always feel at the loss of summer. There's always a bitter-sweet feeling I get at this time of year, when the shadows start to lengthen and the nights draw in.

I hate that it goes dark earlier in the evening and you lose those balmy summer evenings after work (okay, here in the UK balmy evenings are somewhat of a rarity, but they do happen). I hate the condensation that starts to build up on my car windows overnight that you then have to spend ages clearing away before you can drive to work in the morning.

I generally love the autumn, but it does take second place to the spring - for me, spring is the absolute best season and it seems a very long way off right now...

Your beautifully written post brought back memories of daybreak autumn runs through the misty rain in the Bucks and Oxfordshire countrysides. Often it was just me and the sheep/cows out at that time of the morning. Afterwards a quick shower and then tucking into a full English breakfast, or as Mrs Duke referred to it, "heart attack on a plate."

The best times of my life always seemed to occur in autumn, it's always been my favorite time of year. October days are just right for temperature, the nights crisp for better sleeping. The sun sets early but not too early as in December. There is magic in the air, you can feel it as mother nature prepares for winter, there is a mad dash of activity right before everything falls asleep for winter's chill. The spirits are literally bumping into each other this time of year.

Glad it brought back good memories. I've not had a full English for years - yummy! Sounds like you deserved it after running at that ungodly hour! :tearsofjoy:

Some reasons not to be miserable. If only I had a cat and a TV I could fully appreciate it! When I had a cat it was amazing how much she could shed for a short haired cat. These days it's me who sheds and it's everywhere and neverending, but without the cat part. I feel cheated!

Moral of the story - get a cat! :tearsofjoy:

RoseRed -what she said. Well done.
