Figuring out how to program a VCR so you you don't miss an important TV show.
Attempting to salvage a tape which has been chewed up by the player by trying to unfold and untangle it and then wind it back in using a pen.
Another good one

Fighting over the single television set, one that is shared by 8 siblings.

Another thing that isn't exactly a struggle, but more a different perspective: When I was a kid, and ordered something by mail, I had to wait days, or even weeks before it arrived. In this day of online shopping, at the touch of a button you've got it, sometimes on the same day. This has engendered a lot of selfish, gimme attitudes, along with an air of entitlement; "I Want It Now,I shouldn't have to WAIT."

Kids today don't have to wait until next week for the next installment of their favorite television show, don't know how to wait for special holiday traditions and treats, because the stores roll that out way before the actual holiday arrives. I hear neighborhood kids setting off fireworks for no reason at all; they don't know about the pleasant anticipation building up before you could legally light them up, like for the 4th of July. They have nothing to look forward to, because they can have it all right now.

End of rant, lol.

Applause for an EXCELLENT rant! Well done, Garnet! Very good observations!

Changing your engine oil & filter.

Using a timing light.

Crowding around a 19 inch TV, fiddling with the rabbit ears for a better picture. This sometimes involved expertly-applied whacks when you couldn't find the sweet spot on the vertical hold control.

Staying up all night in line in a sketchy part of town to buy concert tickets as soon as they went on sale. What's that funny smell?

Levis 501 shrink-to-fit

Brand new tires that got a whopping 20,000 miles.

Fresca & Tab were the only diet sodas.
