Windows 11 - not as good as it sounds for many............

This topic is so far over my head I won’t even try to comment. I won’t upgrade until you all say it’s ok

Well I don't need any app to know that it won't work with my 'emergency purchase when I had no money, bottom of the barrel' PC. It can barely handle Windows 10! It's nice to know that Microsoft are continuing their long established responsibility to those trapped in the monopoly they secured by looking after all users with slimline multipurpose OSs which can be customised and are good for all, and not chasing hype by creating elitist OSs pitched at high end users and screwing everyone else over. Thanks guys!

Here it is folks, a way to run Windows 11 on your old hardware. It comes from a trusted group of technically savvy individuals who have never let me down before.

I downloaded Windows 11 Insider Preview ISO using the instructions from here: How to Download Windows 11 Insider Preview ISO File

I downloaded VMware Workstation Player from here: VMware Workstation Player

You must be patient with the procedure for downloading the Windows 11 Insider Preview ISO. It takes the script that runs a long time to build the ISO. Your Windows security will also advise you not to download and run the script. But if you click on "more info" it gives you the option to proceed anyways. My Micro Trend software said the files and script were safe.

Windows Insider would not let me download Windows 11 directly from Microsoft even though I am a member. They said my machine was not compatible so that is why I downloaded the Insider Preview ISO from the first link. I didn't want to install it directly on my machine so that is why I downloaded the virtual machine software VMware. I could have install it directly on my machine using the instructions from this video: How to Bypass TPM 2.0, Secure Boot, and RAM Check

I installed Windows 11 and have it running in my virtual machine. It works fine on this computer and since you are installing it in VMware it does not even check for TPM 2.0, Secure Boot, and RAM. Now I can play with Windows 11 without worrying about mucking up my computer. It is working great and has been doing the updates like normal.

Thanks, BC. This is good info to have for those of us who have tech deficits...lol

If you just want to buy Windows 11 installer that is already modified to work on your old hardware, here is a seller on ebay offering an option: Windows 11 64-bit 16GB Flash Drive - Legacy/UEFI, no TPM or Secure Boot Required

I ordered the Windows 11 64-bit Flash Drive and I will let you know how it works. Will use it to upgrade an existing Windows 10 machine.

My experience with people on ebay that do this kind of thing has almost always been positive. You will have to use the upgrade option and change your machine over from Windows 10 to Windows 11 in order to use the free upgrade from Microsoft. Otherwise, you will not be able to activate Windows 11 without buying a product key. Ebay will have cheap product keys for Windows 11 after the software is officially released to the public, rather than paying big money to Microsoft for a product key,

Right now my virtual machine is not activated, but that is no big deal to me. I can still get updates and install software to learn the new OS. You just get a notification periodically that states Windows is not activated. Also, you will see a watermark in the lower right corner of your desktop stating: Activate Windows

I'm more excited about MacOS Monterey but will update all of my Windows-based systems when 11 is out of beta.
I own an M1 MacBook Air, a 2018 Mac Mini, an X1 Yoga laptop (i7 10th Gen), and a self-built Ryzen gaming system.
Those are just my actual computers.

I'm glad I ordered this Windows 11 flash drive when I did, it is no longer available on ebay. Microsoft and ebay shut it down I guess. The flash drive came in yesterday and it worked great. The pc I'm using to post this message is the one I upgraded to Windows 11 from Windows 10 using the flash drive from ebay. All of my applications are still intact. I tried upgrading this pc with the ISO that came directly from Microsoft and it wouldn't upgrade, said the pc was not compatible with Windows 11. Seems like Microsoft is pushing Moore's Law on consumers forcing them to upgrade their hardware when it really isn't necessary.

This time I used the edited ISO on the flash drive to install Windows 11 on an older machine than the first one. It has less computing power than the first machine. Windows 11 is running just fine. Windows 11 is basically Windows 10 with a new skin.

A final word on upgrading your PC to Windows 11 and bypassing the TPM 2.0 (Trusted Platform Module), Safe Boot, and RAM requirements. Windows 11 security does not work properly without the TPM 2.0. You will need a third-party security suite like Trend Micro. I recommend Trend Micro for several reasons but your preference may be another.

I have tested the modified Windows 11 installation on four machines. All four machines are working but there are some minor nuances between the four machines.

After installing Windows 11 it is best to install the optional driver updates you will find under Windows Updates, especially if you are using a high-performance graphic adapter. This helps to resolve hardware problems you may encounter.

One machine has an unusual problem with ethernet connections. After booting up the machine you must power clear the router to establish an internet connection. I’m not sure why that is. Windows 11 troubleshoots the problem as the ethernet cable is disconnect.

Overall, the machines perform very well. If Windows 11 does not like anything during the installation process, it immediately reverts back to Windows 10.

Windows 11 automatically activated base on my Microsoft account and the machine having an activated copy of Windows 10.
