Did you...

Come on Ben, who you trying to kid? There is no ice in the UK. :)
Well of course not! It's just frozen water! Who would pay money for that??? During a heatwave I fill tupperware containers with water and put them in the freezer for a while. Solid blocks of ice which last longer than ice cubes would anyway. :) (Obviously impractical for drinks though unless you have a very manly glass.)

If you go out for dinner to a restaurant or pub or something, they'll put ice in your cold drinks for you (unless you say otherwise), but it's not really a "thing" here, like it is in the States.

We don't typically have stores of it in large bags in our freezers or anything, or buy it at the supermarkets or petrol stations (although I think I have seen it for sale once or twice, so maybe it's catching on over here...?). So, it's not that you can't get it at all, it's just that it's not a big deal here.
You can buy it and have been able to for decades, we just ignore it! I've noticed it while buying other things. They just put ice in drinks when you go out because it takes up space in the glass so you get less drink. My dad would always tell them not to in advance.

It's not a "drink" unless it has ice over here for the most part. Heck, we have drinks MADE of crushed ice! lol

One cannot drink without ice! lol Another culture difference that takes me by surprise.
Wouldn't work with our tea. Or beer. I studied alcoholic drinks! Lager style beers should be drunk very cold, but British ale or bitter style beers should be cool, but never ice cold, as the cold numbs the tastebuds, so you miss some of the subtleties of the taste. The ideal temperature for stout (like Guinness) is a smidge less cool than for ale. It's an art. Obviously if it's terrible, just pile the ice in there! Not a sleight against other beers. There are loads of great beers that are best really cold, just what works best when.
