It’s always great to be hopeful, but I’ve heard it looks like it’s going to stay but will be common like the flu.
Flu is a bad analogy as it's so much worse. Society puts up with flu as it rarely kills or cripples anyone of working age (which I have gotten to think is pretty cold) and because it is so old and diverse that there's no way to truly beat it, but Covid kills and more often wrecks people of all ages alarmingly often. Measles is a better comparison. A disease that used to run wild but only has odd outbreaks now with local warnings. The flu analogy leads people in the direction of thinking it can run riot so long as we vaccinate the most vulnerable, but that's not an option! WE barely understand the hidden damage it causes, which include heart damage, brain damage, male sterility, blood clots, and many others; it attacks everything and there has been no time to give us all full medicals. It honestly scares me to think what it may have done to me! We have really good vaccines which are far more effective than flu vaccines and people are used to going all out against it, so getting it down to 'rare' is the minimum viable way out.

Very well said, Ben. Agree totally.

March 11, 2020 was the beginning of the toilet paper hoarding. I had a feeling things were turning, so I made my kids all go to the store on Weds., the 11th, to have what would become their last "normal" shopping trip with shelves that still contained paper goods and pasta. The 12th was when the panic shopping began in earnest.
Just missed it and then got infected... and ill for a whole month before local support networks were set up. Not something I ever want to do again! I was saved by somebody who wanted to check my smoke alarms who told the housing association about it and they got me some supplies.. at the eleventh hour.

Good news for those of us who've had the first Pfizer shot.
This is what I was told when I got my first and the second wasn't scheduled for another 6 weeks. They wanted to get as many jabs in as they could with the Pfizer to as many people as possible. I go back for round two on 4/28. This is really good news.

I found this really interesting:
It's about how the small number of cases in New Zealand has enabled them to fully sequence the genome of every case and figure out who gave it to whom and how. The story of the person who somehow infected somebody they never met in the next room and how was revealing.

It's Easter Sunday. I am counting my blessings today! We are sooo BLESSED to have found these vaccines. I will tell you the great relief I now feel with my family getting them. A little tired or very temporary fluish feeling is such a very small price to pay to avoid dying by asphyxiation. As someone who has struggled for breath and been in respiratory arrest, I can tell you there is not much else that is more terrifying and that's how over 554,00 Americans have died so far. Struggling for breath they can't get.

Don't be afraid to get your vax. I hear many of you voicing worry over side effects. Not everyone has side effects, and those who do find they are much like how you feel the day after a flu shot, only this doesn't last as long. Within 24 hours you will most likely be right back to normal, with the side BENEFIT of being protected from something that can kill you or your family.

Be fearless. Get your vax and let's get back to normal! You'll find a sense of relief goes with it.

I don't know what to think about this virus. I hear all about it but personally, I don't know anyone that has had it, and only one person that I know of a person that has had it...actually two it was a husband and wife. Considering that we have a bunch of prisons here with tens of thousands of inmates and another fifteen or twenty thousand kids in the University that come from all over the place you would think everyone would have it. ???

My wife and I have now both had the shots that are supposed to protect us from it. They didn't bother her at all but they made me feel a little crappy for a couple of days and the first one made my arm sore for almost a week and a half.

Welp, I have lost several good friends to it including a good friend's husband. We also have members here who have had it or have a family member who has had it. One even has it now. Poor Benway had it twice. You are lucky to live in an area that has been lightly touched by it. Glad you got your vax.
