Most of us have had roommates at one time or another....in college, in the military, sharing an apartment, etc. Tell us your roommate stories, good or bad.

My freshman roommate showed up with the expectation of decorating our dorm room in "Early American Indian." He intended to do up the room as a large tepee, and hang things like tomahawks, arrowheads, and Indian prints on both sides of the room. He complained bitterly about my Salvador Dali and rock band prints/posters. He was a major loon, and spent his career designing windshield wiper systems for GM.

But, I for one greatly appreciate the windshield wipers on my GMC Terrain.

I used to live with two other guys. One of them had a habit of leaving out either used paper plates or used red/white Solo brand plastic cups. After several attempts to get him to be more considerate, I decided to make a statement.

I went to Costco and bought a HUGE supply of both of those products. Then I went home and, while he was at work, I placed combinations of both on every single horizontal surface in the entire condo except for my bedroom and our other roommate‘s bedroom. It was impossible to even enter the condo without stepping on cups and plates or knocking them over. Then I left.

He ended up cleaning up everything before I got back.

Not exactly subtle, but effective.

When I rented a room in a boarding house, there was this one guy who would take my dishes from the kitchen cupboard and eat pasta off them, then leave them in the sink. I had to store them in my room and cart them back and forth when I wanted to eat. We each had a private cupboard, so he was just being plain inconsiderate!

There was also an Asian guy who made delicious pot stickers, and pork belly in a sweet and sour sauce, among other things. He was very generous with his food.

The guy who lived next door to me in the dorm my third year had the perfect roommate, he was never there. He was on a full ROTC scholarship, including his dorm room and dining hall pass. He opted to live off campus with his girlfriend, however. He kept stuff in the room to make it look like he lived there in case someone from ROTC came looking for him. So officially he lived in the dorm, but was there maybe a half dozen times over the academic year. I met/saw him once.
