Skinwalker Sightings

What would be the goal?
thats a good question to hear an answer for from someone in the know. i would guess pertaining to tribal beliefs it would be solely for personal gain or to enact revenge or harm upon ones enemies. maybe goose will fill us all in a little more. from the werewolf stand you would have to probably start with the epic of gilgamesh and work your way from there... curses and all. which makes ya wonder if its still a curse or now a lineage... (if possible of course)....lol.

skinwalkers are witches, practitioners of the dark arts actually. so, much like the curse or selling your soul type legends of werewolves they would fall into that gray area. (thats why i find it interesting how , many legends across many cultures have the same basis of a belt or pelt to activate the change) ( not interesting because of the werewolf but more so in the idea of the magic involved, and how that belief crosses cultures.....the werewolf is not a magical entity, but something entirely different so should skinwalkers even be thrown in with them?). as oz stated above, i think a tulpa type entity may be possible but not a flesh and blood creature just from thought. slenderman, the rake etc.. i think are just urban legend, creepy pasta stuff that makes the rounds of the internet.
You covered my thoughts on this well Paul.

If people believing in something could drag it into reality the world would be INFESTED with monsters brought forth in the middle ages. Once people get something in their heads they will "see" it almost everywhere. Let's be real, bigfoot in Central Park in NYC????? They may exist in places that are isolated and untraveled but if you look at a map of sightings they would have to be at least hundreds of thousands of them all over America, The map below is supposed to represent bigfoot sightings but it also is basically a human population map. If there are a lot of people that will be a lot of critter sightings.

Good point Dan. If what we thought manifested the world would be full of strange creatures and lots of BF. However I don’t discount the power of intention and prayer. I think we do have some power over what we bring into our lives.

Goose, here is my question for you since you are involved in the Native lore of it. Per your understanding, does the Shaman himself turn into the Skinwalker physically or does he "call in" a Skinwalker entity from another realm and control it? Or does he actually "meld" with the entity?
I can only state what I have read and what others have told me. I am not brave enough to look for these things nor do I intend to get too interested in their habits but here is what I know. They do not call in a being from another dimension, they transform into the said devil incarnate and then do their dirty work. It may be their spirit that takes on the form and leaves their body? Or it may be their actual bodies transforming. One way or another they become the animal they want to become. This is not found only in native cultures too but in European lore also. At one point when I was young and not really all that smart about the culture and the taboos involved in discussion of these things I asked someone who was talking about her experiences out west. When she opened her mouth and started talking about it the room emptied! It is a serious thing to the people who have to live there and I dont understand it all that well but have gotten creeped out in the nearlby forest a few times when exploring. These lands are older that our new culture and who knows what will be here in 200 years. I know I wont , but thats it

Meeting the Medicine Men is the book to read if you are truly interested in REAL lore and real healers in the culture mentioned. I agree the point and click stuff is fun but they are writers tryin to get interest for their article and I bet in 99 percent of the time dont have any experience in their story subjects.
Here is the link. This book is way more than intersting its factual. IMO of course.

On more thing I just remembered. The big shows on coast to coast lately being Marley woods (?) and the continual discussion of Skinwalker Ranch one thing is brough up often . The entity or whatever it is can follow the people back to their cribs and cause mischief. Wierd and scary IMO.

Those are called hitchhikers, and most of the time are not Skinwalker related, although they do follow people from Skinwalker ranch. It's at this time unknown what these entities might be, but they seem to fall into a separate category from the Walkers.

Interesting Navajo Policeman discusses lots of problems they face that are real.
