Bigfoot, Sasquatch, whatever the name almost HAS to be nocturnal. For one thing, if he wandered around during the day he would either be extinct by now or a well-known woodland creature. The main reason may have to do with the fact that being bipedal he might not be able to run down his prey like deer and such. Many large predators primarily hunt at night because it is easier to sneak up on prey in the dark.

Predators often have much better night vision than their prey and I expect that this may be true of Bigfoot. If someone sees something in the dark it is easy for the naysayers to discount that as just a misunderstood sighting. During the day ESPECIALLY now would mean a lot of GOOD clear high-quality pictures because everyone has at the very least a cell phone almost all of the time.

The Squatch is most likely a curious creature much as man is and at night it is so very easy for you to get close to a bunch of people around a fire. I used to run in the woods late at night when I was young. I have checked out a lot of campers and not once was ever seen. I loved the night and worked at night for decades. When I got off at midnight there was nothing to do. The TV usually signed off and played the national anthem about the time I got home. I was not ready to go to bed so I went for a walk and as often as not ended up in the woods.

Possibly because I have has pretty bad eyesight for my entire life I am well used to not seeing things clearly. Through the first several years that I was in school, it was sort of assumed that I wasn't very smart because I didn't do very well. When they tested us when I was in the second grade it was almost funny. I was told to read the lines on the chart to read the lines on the poster and I couldn't even see the poster. or anything on that wall from where I stood! I was blind. If my vision could not be corrected to any better than I can see I WOULD be classified as legally blind. It was something like 20/300. Anyway, darkness doesn't bother me or slow me down and never has. I can "SEE" when others swear that they can't see anything. Maybe I have freakish night vision or maybe I just am not bothered by very limited sight. I well remember the first time that I saw a bird flying. I was at school and the robins flew in and landed on the playground. I was gobsmacked.

If Bigfoot is nocturnal and does not want to be seen, believe me, it is EASY to not be seen at night in the woods. I make nearly no noise as I moved and seldom even looked up because the moon or even the stars will dim your night vision. Most people stare into a fire or at a flashlight and are constantly night blind. I carried a small 2 AA cell flashlight only so if I walked up on a snake or something I could light it up to see it it was a problem.

Bigfoot is mostly going to bury up in the dense brush during the day and only come out and into places where people might be late at night to see what the silly humans are up to. I suspect that he will occasionally let out a scream just to scare the people. If he is any sort of hominid then I suspect that he has a sense of humor. Chimps and gorillas have a sense of humor and will do things as sort of jokes and laugh.

Good to hear from you, Dan!

thanks for the explanation Tex. The way you put it makes total sense. My own background says they are part spiritual creatures able to manifest in this world as they decide to do . But one thing that was mentioned to me long ago was what comes out only at night. Of course the guy was implying predators. I just dont know. SOme of them seem to be genuine protectors of the forest and spiritual beings and some just plain mean hearted bullies from what Ive read and heard.Have you ever smelled one or seen one?I have not but I ahve seen structures that seem to indicate they are around here. I can also tell a man made primitive shelter because Ive made them before and know what to look for in terms of people coming and going, fire, trash left around. etc.

The scariest part of the story is the statement " The next night " . I would have been outa there after night one. :)

With a group of people, i might have been braver and stayed. Ha ! Not sure.
Good observation ! Who’s staying? Not me.

I have never smelled one or seen one but have spent thousands of hours in the woods and swamps at night hoping to encounter one. I have almost no fear of them or much else that is in the woods at night. Man is about the only beast that harms or kills other creatures for pleasure or sport. I have often suspected that people, in general, must taste pretty awful because even in Africa people are mostly only prey for animals that for some reason can't catch or find better things to eat. Animals that considered people as primary prey species probably became quickly extinct.

I have had a lot of encounters with odd things in the night. I had a "friend" I called Hugo that would follow me as I walked near the swamps at night. It, over time, became less and less stealthy and seemed to like walking with me and having me talk to it. It was big and evidently very dark colored so all that I could ever see was a faint dark shape. It seemed friendly enough except one time when my 75-pound german shepherd got fiesty with it. The big dog ran into the brunch and then there were a few growls and she came sailing back out and onto the trail. Hugo either kicked her or threw her 20 or 30 feet with little effort. after that, she would get close and quiet when Hugo showed up.

Lest you think that I am a fool or insanely brave I will confess that I have ALWAYS carried a gun and a large knife when I went walking in the deep woods or swamps. There are a lot of things in the night that might find a person alone to be a temptation. I have had more problems with people over the years than all the critters that other fear. A gun has a way of calming asshats down fast. they are looking for easy prey and not a fight with a prepared person. just having a gun in a holster on your belt eliminates most problems.

I now am licensed to carry either concealed or openly but in the woods have always been armed. A rabid skunk or raccoon is a bigger threat than nearly anything else where I live. We don't have bears or enough big cats to talk about so in general, I am the baddest critter in the woods at night.

In general, the night shift creatures are mostly sneaky and not looking for big prey. Other than a few crazy dogs I have never had any trouble with animals. In a way, I considered myself more one of them than a human intruder. we all avoided people and fried to mostly go unnoticed. If I had run into a Bigfoot or whatever I would have met it head-on with no aggression but prepared to deal with it if that was what was offered.

What do you think Hugo was? A Big Foot?
