My daughter is 2.5 years old and has recently (since November) has been talking about her friend Uncle Toby. When asked what he looks like, she says he is pink (pink hair, shin, shirt, pants) and wears a pink hat. She said he is nice but says his heart is broken and he’s sad.

mad a 2.5 year old, she knows colors and shapes, but I don’t know where she got that name, the color, or the term “broken heart”. We don’t know anyone named Toby in the family or friends to boot.

I guess I’m am a concerned parent, in that I don’t know if this is an imaginary friend or if this is potentially a phenomenon. We live in a house in West Virginia that is 120 years old, we are active military and we never noticed anything strange after living here for nearly 2 years. Has anyone experienced something like this? Does the color pink mean something?

Hi, Clm. At that age, kids come up with a lot of things. I wouldn't panic. She's not showing fear, and from what I see you are not experiencing anything else happening of a paranormal nature in the home. One thing I will mention is young kids still have a foot on the other side of the veil at times. They tend to connect with spirit guardians and even angels at times that may come across in conversation as scary to the parents.

Pink actually is a very calming, non threatening color. If Uncle Toby is pink, there is a good chance if it's not imagination, it's simply a visitor who is a calming influence to her. I'd take a watch and wait with this and not go into panic mode.

One more thought. Little ones often express their fears or worries with imaginary friends...real or honestly imaginary. I'd listen to the words closely to see if she is expressing something to you about her own fears. Also, young or not, children pick up words you would never expect! A broken heart can be heard on TV, or overheard from talk and incorporated into her speech without you knowing she's been exposed to it. Even commercials have an influence. Patience and observation for awhile and support her in speaking of it when she wishes.

Thank you for your calming “pink” energy response! With anything and parenthood, you can’t help but be worried. I’m gonna keep an eye on it and see if it changes. When we say prayers at night we go through all her friends and relatives, and lately she’s been including him in them. Maybe it’s a good thing, but I’ll try not to lose sleep over it!

thank you for responding so quickly too! It’s been a little nerve racking to say the least!

Thank you again debi! This is all so helpful! I’m going to start listening to what she watches on tc or hears on the radio!

I'm the mom of 3, foster mom of another, and have several grandkids. Been in the paranormal field most of my 67 years. You take a deep breath and stay calm. St. Michael's prayer is a good one to say in any home for protection. If you need anything, or just to talk, you can find us here and we'll help you walk through this...paranormal or normal, we're family here. I don't sense any danger to you or your child, so may you be blessed with a lovely holiday season ahead. Perhaps with a bit of pink on your tree!

Hi Clm welcome to the forum. I had a child who saw things too. She grew into a physic teenager. We had a lot to deal with so I know how it can be unsettling. However I would go with Debi’s advice for now. Just keep a close watch over her and pray protective prayers. I hope you stay around and get to know us. We are a fun and open minded group.

I think imaginary friends are usually harmless and probably the beginning of a creative mind in our early years. In Oz we have cereal called"Uncle Toby's Oats" ,maybe she has seen an add somewhere and pictured the real uncle toby. Paranormal or not, it doesn't sound harmful to me.Welcome Clm.
