Thats a new one to me. Ive known one person who was considered a Heyoka and he wasnt an empath. True they are funny and a part of the First Nation Tribal life of the Plains. There is a lot of tribal lore to a heyoka and what I got from reading the post was some person made up something to fit an idea they had. Heyokas are known to do the opposite too. So if they were expected to be sad they would be happy, maybe. There are no rules to a heyoka Ive heard so be prepared for anything.

I have to agree with you on that assessment, Goose. I've seen this idea proposed before as Heyoka being the most powerful, etc. I have to disagree with the article as well.

My reason for questioning the author and certainly not Duke was what I have learned about Heyoka. I looked online for a definition and found lots of this Heyoka empath material which shocked me but didnt surprise me as authors are always coming up with new material and psychotherapists that do the kind of work stated in the article are trying to help people accept themselves . But, having somewhat of a tribal experience I felt a lot was left out. WHat I know of heyoka isnt gospel so here it goes. A heyoka isnt an easy life. Some are born into it, some are drawn into it. It isnt just laughing at sadness but a whole lot more of opposite behavior. Wearing clothes backwards. Doing the opposite of what everyone else is doing. It sounds like fun but a life of it is difficult and I dont understand enough of the reasons for nor how one dissasociates with the whole concept. or even if one can. Thats the real heyoka I am talking about. The one of the tribal period where families lived together and knew each other and why some kids are better hunters and others better workers or better at making people laugh. Just my opinion I wanted to explain myself a little more. i didnt want to soound dismmissive of the concept. But I totally disagree with the concept. I can laugh at somethings but i would be offended if someone belittled my sadness or loss with humor often.
