Do you know anyone who unfortunately has a name that made them a target of teasing, ridicule, or embarrassment? Maybe they had the same or similar name to someone in the news or a celebrity, or perhaps their name sounded phonetically like something not discussed in polite company?

I went to high school with a very nice, quiet girl named Mary Long. Our junior year, the band Deep Purple released a song entitled "Mary Long" about an anti-porn crusader in the UK. The refrain from the song was, "How did you lose your virginity Mary Long?". The girl I went to school was taunted with that refrain for two years.

I worked with a guy whose last name was Head and he had a son called Richard,he drove speedway cars and had his name Dick Head painted on the cars. This one is a bit vulgar so remove please if not allowed.I knew a girl named Carmen and her last name was Sarkas.I spent months choosing names for my kids so they didn't get picked on for them,I really don't think these people's parents thought much about this, lol.

I went to school with a girl named Summer Autumn Day. Her explanation was that she had hippie parents, but most people figured that out for themselves.

My mom had a co-worker named Frank Norman Stein or Frank N. Stein.

There was a guy in my Army unit whose last name was Case. He took two weeks leave when his wife had their first baby, a boy. When he came back as a proud father showing pictures of his son I asked him what they named the boy. I don't remember the exact name but it was an ordinary name like Dave. I said he should have named the boy Justin (Justin Case). He stopped and stood there, staring at me with an oddly blank face for several seconds. I suddenly felt bad that my corny jokes had offended him and was about to apologize when he blurted out "I can't believe I didn't think about that! My wife would have actually been okay with that!"

Of course for all the unfortunate names out there you can also find the opposite, names that are very fortunate. Also in the Army we had a Company Commander whose last name was Justice, making him Captain Justice!

Ohhh boy. I got a list! lol Let's start with my friend Maggie May, who hated the song by the same name by Rod Stewart. Everyone sang it to her. My hubs has a first name often used for girls, but it's a family surname. I have to explain to business people who call or when we visit a new doc together that's it's HIM not me. Then we have my son, who is NOT the Fresh Prince of Bel-air Will Smith but somehow I managed to name him after his great grandfather with the same name.

I have encountered names that were a bit funny but the reason for the humor wasn't immediately recognizable at first. There was a girl in my second grade class, who's name sounded like Militia. I am not sure how it was spelled, but it made my father laugh when I mentioned her at home. Then there was a Florine, which was funny later when I learned about the periodical table of elements. And finally, from fifth grade, LaSonya, who got called Lasagne by her classmates.

I was Given my Grandfather's first name and always hated it...so I use my middle name and have to explain to endless idiots that I don't use my first name and even sign my name as H. Dan ....... Horace might have been common in the 1920s but it just never worked for me.

I remember a girl that came to our primary school when we were in 6th grade. All the young blokes were well impressed as she was very well developed for her age.You could have heard a pin drop when the teacher introduced the new student"class this is our new student Tittiana".
