Divining the Future

Free will up to a point.
I think that we are like sticks in a stream. We have the opportunity to go this way or that - but we will always end up going in one direction.

I think we end up where we are supposed to be, either to our own benefit or that of someone else. Most things happen for a reason even if we can't see it or understand it at the time.
I have used the cards a few times for decisions or to know what is coming next, and they have been accurate. But I haven't used them for a while now as you can develop a feeling for how things are going.- like knowing when it will rain.

I studied tarot for a long time and never really enjoyed the thought of knowing the future. the whole card system is so filled with history and hidden knoweledge that I really got interested. One time I went to a local psychic fair and saw a reader for 5 dollars. Since I am cheap I thought how could I pass up that bargain? My first card was the death card. She said my wife would die within 6 months !!!!!! I almost fell out of my chair and immediately went to my local medium card reader friend who said the woman was a fraud and was wrong. I was nervous for six months to be honest. Then I started studying divination and remote viewing and decided very few people know the future and if you do its because creator wants you to know it. If you arent to know something you wont. My opinion only.

Noooooooo... I've got enough problems.

I never ever ever never ever read my own cards... and the one time I decided to have them read... (New Orleans, 2 daquiris down, 10 years ago) the lady had me shuffle, think, etc etc, turned over the first card, got a strange look on her face, handed me my money back and said "nope" lolololol

Lifes a Mystery - I like it like that...

Ahhh....the debate of free will versus destiny or fate, when I was younger I firmly believed in free will, that I controlled my future alone, as I've gotten older I'm not so sure, sooner or later you will see things that will question that frame of thought and make you wonder if it's more a combination of the two philosophies.
I agree. I tend to believe our intentions and “will” form most of our future but the world it exists in is shaped by the mass beliefs and intentions. This can effect our personal choices and life paths. You are right Paul in my opinion to say it is a combination of things effecting our fate. If we add in the creator there is a third party involved. Hopefully the life lessons we come down to learn are grasped within the lifetime we plan.

Wow that would have scared me to death! She could have handled that differently. Someone who doesn’t care about how they effect people is working on the wrong side in my opinion. Remember your beliefs and God (if you believe), have a big part in your life. I think sometimes these doomsday readers and remote viewers see the future before the creator intervenes.

Hiya Rowan, good to see you.
I've always believed in a mix of free will and determinism but never, or ever, will know that ratio.
I do like the sticks floating down the stream analogy because I do think there's times and places that we need to be for whatever reason. And the existentialist in me believes that we have the free will to decide on how we to interpret and react to those situations. That may be what we are ultimately judged on.

There is a priest that has a radio show Who I really respect and thinks about these things. He studies people that have died and lived to tell about it. And has come to believe that the afterlife is timeless.
This brings up questions about the implications on the nature of Destiny. He talked about people that died and came back as having a life review, and that our reactions to circumstances are key. His interviews led him to believe that Purgatory is the transition from time to timelessness.

Anyway I don't want to know the future as much as I really do want to know the future. I guess if you live long enough and are the least bit sensitive you know what to embrace in life and what to run away from. Good enough.
Rambling.

I had a colleague who had a unique perspective on the concept of free will. His take was, other than being born, every thing that happens in a life is the result of free will. Killed by a meteor that crashes through your roof? You made the choice to stay in your home that day, you could have decided to go to a movie theater. Found a $50 bill on the sidewalk? You made the decision to walk the route allowing you find the bill.

You may not have made a decision of your own free will with a particular result or affect in mind, but you make the choice all the same.
