We had an old station wagon...with the wood panels...that I remember from an early age. I also remember riding in the back, no seat belts, and even making a bed back there when we went on vacation. My dad loved that dang thing. I also recall the back often smelled like his fishing equipment. :p But we drove that thing for a very long time! It eventually became his go to work car, but as I kid it was an adventure to go anywhere in it.

We need a “double like” feature. Can’t show enough love for this Debi-tory (Debi + History).

View attachment 24997 1961 Ford Fairlane, almost identical to this one. It was the first new car my parents ever bought.
That's the exact model my family owned ,it was two toned brown,I used to call it the bat mobile because of the body shape.

There were certainly others before - likely other Fords - but the infamous one was a 1974 Ford Pinto hatchback.

Don’t shame me - I now know about the possible disaster - but I used to love sitting in the back behind the second row seat and wave through the huge glass hatch at strangers who would pull up behind us. I was both an ignorant and a very likable child.

My Dad would buy a used car, trade in his current one every two to three years. He had friends in the used car business and he liked shopping for cars. We had many Volkswagens. I learned to drive and drive a stick with a VW. The most memorable car was a 1971 VW Squareback like the one pictured. It shifted so nicely and had plenty of power. We went on many fishing trips in that car.

My memory is of the same station wagon type. The back seat faced the rear and we loved riding back there. It had power windows and that was a big deal back then. We had a lot of fun in that car.

Although our '65 convertible Mustang (which we still have) is way up on that list I would have to say it was our 1972 F250. Lots of family vacations, states and Canada when we were growing up. When I got my license I drove it many times around town and cruising.
