We were staying at Hidden Villa for a celebration of life to Honor a relative. We all stayed in one of the cabins there. The first night we were there and everyone was at the dinner and activity hall, I realized that I had forgotten my phone while unpacking the car. I had tried to find it earlier but couldn't seem to locate it in the backseat or on the floor near/ under either of the seats. A relative told me to go out and see if I could find the phone on the ground near the cabins using a head lamp for a light source and retrieve her key from their cabin so that we could do one last look in the car . So I went out in the darkness near their cabin which faced the one I would be sleeping in for the night. My cabin was named "Bay Laurel". As I searched on the ground for a few minutes and all of a sudden, the peaceful atmosphere became hostile. I heard a very loud noise that sounded like a cross between knocking or pecking and clicking like some bugs do and I felt like there was an evil presence near me in the woods behind my cabin. I looked over into Ithe woods but only briefly because I was terrified that I would see something and I instantly became terrified and started to run back towards people and the safety of the dining and activity hall. I stopped because I didn't want to lie about not having the key so I turned around despite the horrible feeling that something wanted to attack me and started praying the Lord's Prayer as I quickly walked up the ramp and into the cabin to get the key that was attached to her back pack and finally run back to the safety and comfort of family and friends. It was weird that I found my phone sitting on the floor of the backseats when I had checked everywhere including under the front seats before. The weirdest part is someone left a sprig of the bay laurel plant in the center of the doorstep at my relatives cabin where I had gotten the key. My relatives told me to leave it on the doorstep of my cabin (Bay Laurel cabin) as a welcome surprise for my roommate who was a few hours away from us during that time. I just wanted to know who left the Bay Laurel plant there? The wind wasn't blowing and the walkway is a wheelchair ramp. The only sprig of Bay Laurel laying on the ramp or ground was the one placed at the doorstep to the other cabin. The bay laurel trees were not directly near the cabins and was further into the woods and everyone was inside at the dining and activity hall, noone had been outside except me during that time to even go to the restroom. I feel like a spirit left it there for me. I read that Bay Laurel was used for protection from lightningand for protection during exorcisms or poltergeists. I just wanted to ask if anyone else has any advice about this situation?

The Laurel Tree is legendary for it's protection. From ancient times it has been used to ward property and people from entities. Now, just my opinion, but you prayed for help and protection. I think you got it and this was a ward and also a sign for you that you were heard.
If we believe in entities, etc., it's not a leap to believe those of faith get prayers answered. Angels are pretty good at that kind of thing.
As for the phone, things can be apported and returned....happens quite a bit. If you look on some of the past experiences here you will see this is something reported rather often.

Awesome story, even if it was terrifying for you at the time. Bay Laurel is a symbol of protection, as Debi said. Whether it was angels, or fairies, or just a considerate nearby resident who left the sprig on your doorstep, I'd be grateful that they did!

Another weird thing to consider is that the front desk cabin was brightly lit and noone was ever inside after dark. Some of my friends and family found it odd that noone was ever there and pointed it out because they are environmentally conscious and felt that energy shouldn't be wasted. I wonder if the people working there were afraid of something?]
Debi summed up the theory well. That being said where was this? California? Mountainous region ? Was there livestock around ? If it’s the area I’m thinking they may have a group of Bigfoot in the area. Not a good idea to let the guests know if you want to keep a business.
