MOST OF US HAVE HAD PETS OVER THE YEARS. HOW DID YOU FIND YOUR FURBABIES? DID THEY CHOOSE YOU? DID YOU ADOPT, FIND, OR PURCHASE?

SHARE YOUR STORIES OF HOW YOU FOUND YOUR FAVORITE FURRED OR FEATHERED CHILDREN!

Nice topic choice Debi. A thread with 100% positivity and just a little bit of allergy potential.

All of my pets have been - for at least the past 20 years - rescues. I rescue everywhere. Humane Society, pet shop adoptions, parking lot orphans, etc.

Best example this week is my sweet buddy Sammy just passed on Monday. He was rescued from a coworker whose dog had a small litter. Apparently one of Sammy’s litter mates gouged out one of Sammy’s eye as he was being birthed.

My coworker didn’t think Sammy was adoptable because of his looks and was going to kill him. My GF and I saved him.

I found a little, sick ,skinny kitten with infected eyes that had been dumped next to a main road .When I saw her she was walking the centre line with trucks passing inches either side.Luckily she couldn't see so didn't panic.I waited for a break and picked her up.She grew into a beautiful tortoise shell tabby and I still have "Highway" 14 years on.

Lucky for both of you Oz.

When we were little kids we were playing in the woods, one of the neighbor moms packed us lunch. We came across a little marmalade short hair feral kitten, no other cats around.
He was pretty scrawny and was probably 10 weeks old. But he sure liked the sandwich we gave him, so like most 8 to 10 year old kids do, what do we name?
Nancy said he sure likes that pork chop sandwich.
Pork chop was a very healthy cat all his life and died suddenly at age 21.

Pasha, who is my profile picture and is, right now, curled up purring on my lap, was my brother's cat. When he passed from cancer, his wife was overwhelmed and struggling and asked family if they could take the cats. Pasha had been in mourning basically for the entire time my brother was on hospice, sitting outside the door of his room, refusing to eat or drink. She had patches of missing fur and was nothing but skin and bones. None of my family wanted to take her on, but I love her to bits! I think we helped each other grieve and heal, and she's a pretty healthy little cat now. Odd Note: Pasha knows when there will be an earthquake. I don't always pay attention to the signs, but she always tries to tell me.

All my cats have been rescues. I have collected about 16 barn cats. I feed well and occasionally someone new moves into the barn. I no longer have house cats. The last one passed about 6 months ago. My Pomeranian is relentless in chasing them. So to get a kitten or cat she was not raised with is a bad situation for the feline. I haven’t figured out how to over come this problem yet. I have really missed having a house cat.

As a child, I brought home anything and everything that needed a home...much to my mom's chagrin. Now, my dad would always make sure these poor lost ones would get a good home or at the least end up out on the farm my uncle owned.

As an adult, most animals seem to have found me...lol I have gotten calls about a crippled puppy who needed surgery and the owner was going to put him down (my late Harley), a cat who had been badly abused (my late Ripley who was supposed to be a foster and ended up with me for 19 years), my Gracie the Chihuahua who had medical problems, and now Sophie who has had a rough time before coming here to live. The list is so long it would take me two pages to list them all, but somehow they always find our home. I've only purchased two dogs, both for my husband who wanted a certain breed. The rest have been rescue/adoptions. I have also fostered a few along the way until their furever homes were ready for them.

At one point in life, I had at my home 6 dogs, 3 cats, 12 chickens and a sheep or two. Currently down to 2 dogs of ours and one of Gabe's. Almost feels empty around here! lol

This is our rescue Oliver. My GF found him laying in a parking lot, unable to move anything but his head. He was total weakened. He was apparently lifting his head trying to catch a butterfly; that was how my GF discovered he was alive at all. She brought him home and into our family. He loved Sammy immensely too.
