Was I Just Sleep Deprived?

I "woke up" of the Night Hag floating over me once...I was having a very rough time sleeping, and I've read where people who encounter the Night Hag are often sleep deprived.

I woke up with it on top of me too. I opened my eyes and saw a dark shadow figure over me. There's a bit of light in my bedroom from electronics plugged in that have a light on them. I could see a head and shoulders darker than the room right above me. When I realized what it was I gasped and it dove into me. I was suddenly paralyzed. I was not sleep deprived.

That is so terrifying. Whatever these things are they need a spiritual punch.

You know this experience is SO widespread that if it is a ancient survival mechanism I would love to know why we get it.
A bit like my other post about being sleep deprived this shadow was sort of scratching me really fast and I was trying so hard to move and as I made a whining sound my brother shouted "nathan its a dream" and the moment he did it just vanished.
I have that in common with my experiences that it just disappears instantly like a puff of smoke. Do others find this?

I have not experienced this but the reports I’ve read stated that people are awake and aware and can not free themselves. It takes extreme praying, or effort to release the restraint. Now biological sleep paralysis is relieved by moving a body part like a toe or finger. Perhaps someone stimulating you connected you to your body.

When this happens to me or my wife (it attacks her too) we both try to call out to the other to wake us up. The moment I call out and she hears me, she touches me and says something. I’m immediately broken free, and vise versa.
