I'm the one who doesn't typically see ghosts but something just happened...

Was on a business conference call until 4:30. Then headed to the shower.

Before turning on the water I heard another word pronounced aloud but could not identify what the word was. Might not have been English; maybe that's why I didn't recognize it.

I did hear what sounded like two footsteps on our wood floors while I was in the shower. Our floors don't creak. And, my dogs didn't come upstairs because I put a gate up to prevent it before I got into the shower.

After existing the shower, I heard what sounded like very soft music - very melodic. Nothing that I would expect to be played by a neighbor or a passing car at a volume loud enough for me to hear inside my house. Wasn't the TV downstairs either because my DVR has a timer on it which shuts it off after an extended period of inactivity - I checked and the TV was off before I got into the shower.

One mystery solved - the cat came upstairs while I was in the shower. The "footstep" sound I heard was probably him jumping.

OK, first off none of what you have described is indicative of something that is inimical or attacking you. I often think that in some cases we are visited by things that are just mostly curious or lonely. Our fear may sometimes cause the bad reactions. I had a friend that had a poltergeist in their home. It wasn't very destructive and was mostly just a little childly mischevious. It moved things and made a little noise but other than a couple of glass things that got broken when they "fell" off of shelves or tables it was mostly just trying to get attention. They decided to just incorporate it into the family and rather than fear it they talked to it and gave it the name Dennis (Dennis the menace). When it did something that was not destructive they laughed and told Dennis that they were impressed and when he did something like pushing a glass off the table he got gently scolded. Over time Dennis just sort of faded away. Not all the things that we don't understand are evil.

Now on the other hand. Hearing voices and things are normal and not usually paranormal. Part of what the human mind does that kept us alive when we were in the jungle and savannas and not the top of the food chain is take bits and pieces of things seen and heard and put together to see if there might be danger involved.

Generally, when you could obviously see a preditor it wasn't hunting and wasn't very dangerous. It was the hidden predator that was stalking you that would kill you. Your brain can take little pieces of things and put them together in some amazing ways. This allows us to "see" things that are not actually visible in a complete form. If you will look through the grass and move your head side to side it will take all the little slightly different pieces of things from different angles and put them together revealing something that was well hidden.

It does the same with sounds. this is what allows you to "hear" and talk to one person even when you are in a room filled with talking people. If you look at the person that is talking to you your mind will take the movements of the mouth and put it together with the sounds that go with those movements and you can "hear" them pretty clearly. If they turn their heads away you can't hear them at all. The point of this is that even when there is no voices and just noise your mind will nonetheless try to offer you understanding.

I have a fan in my bedroom that I run year-round as a white noise device more than an air mover. I will hear all sorts of things in that white noise. Voices that sound like a new report on the radio is pretty common. Music is also fairly common. Different nights there will be different types of music. I have eventually realized that what I am hearing is somewhat reflective of my mental state that night. I have not figured out what polka music is reflective of but it happens about once a month.

What you may be experiencing a combination of effects. You may have something that wants your attention and then as you have become more attentive to sounds your mind is trying to make sense out of white noise sounds and offering you some of the voices and music from that noise. Sometimes white noise can be so quiet that you won't even be conscious of it unless you stop and listen for it but it can still trigger the ghost sounds.

Instead of fearing the visitor you might try to carefully offer it a little attention. I say carefully because just as all things unknown are not evil you don't want to assume that they are harmless. Treat it as you would any stranger that you meet. Some are friends that you have not met and got to know yet and some you don't want to know. If the visitor is not nice then offering it fears will just encourage it. If it is just noisy and playful then maybe you might make a friend. Most of the mean sort can be removed with sage and a blessing. I suspect that it as much the fact that you are actively telling it to leave as the smoke that sends them away. In either case, most visitors are not truly dangerous as long as you don't open yourself to them.

I think you have to be "in the mood"to see these shadow men or creatures.Letting your guard down or stress causes these sightings with me.The ones I've experienced don't seem that powerful or bad,I believe they are trying to get a foot in the door though so if you just stay in control they are harmless imo.

It is very humbling to find myself reaching out to the PNF for paranormal assistance when I thought most of this stuff was behind me.

The stress part seems especially appropriate TD because it’s been growing for several weeks and I’ve been feeling it especially the past two weeks.

I don’t think I’ve purposely attracted anything in that I’ve really only cast one spell in that period and done one energy manipulation too. I haven’t asked for any intervention, I have not invoked any deity. No crazy Ouija stuff.

I’m fearful because I’m an especially visually oriented person. So “seeing” things cuts through, or does an end run around, my conscious systems. I can’t help but go into fright mode. Sounds for example don’t startle me.

Enough text for now. Thank you TD for your support.

Oz, thank you for trying to help. Stress has been running really high recently so I’ll accept that as a key trigger. I have become acutely aware of this occurrence partially because I believe I had (back in 2000) trapped an entity in my bedroom (for at least three years) by trying ignorantly to banish them. Regardless of how very rare, anything in my space is automatically, and ignorantly, seen as a foreign invader which I might have to challenge. But when I say rare I’m talking about 20 years so not interested in visitation nor confrontation.

On another thread, just a day or so ago, we were talking about the effect that emotions have on our reality. In your case stress is probably has your visual perceptions working overtime to protect you from perceived threats. This will make/allow you to see things that otherwise probably would get filtered out.

Wands you are one of the most intelligent and physic people I’ve ever met. I bet if you just sit down and center yourself the answer to what this is will come to you.

On a side note I’d have run out of the house screaming in my pjs lol.

I apologize for not responding last night to your most recent comments. Understanding that stress could have been part of my issue, I elected to “self medicate”. So after the fourth glass of Pinot Grigio, it was instant lights out at 8:30.

My sleep was less restful last night; but, I can’t jump to any paranormal cause [… Pinot Grigio].

After my GF leaves for work today, I’ll do a short meditation to center before I dive into my own business tasks.
