OK, first off none of what you have described is indicative of something that is inimical or attacking you. I often think that in some cases we are visited by things that are just mostly curious or lonely. Our fear may sometimes cause the bad reactions. I had a friend that had a poltergeist in their home. It wasn't very destructive and was mostly just a little childly mischevious. It moved things and made a little noise but other than a couple of glass things that got broken when they "fell" off of shelves or tables it was mostly just trying to get attention. They decided to just incorporate it into the family and rather than fear it they talked to it and gave it the name Dennis (Dennis the menace). When it did something that was not destructive they laughed and told Dennis that they were impressed and when he did something like pushing a glass off the table he got gently scolded. Over time Dennis just sort of faded away. Not all the things that we don't understand are evil.
Now on the other hand. Hearing voices and things are normal and not usually paranormal. Part of what the human mind does that kept us alive when we were in the jungle and savannas and not the top of the food chain is take bits and pieces of things seen and heard and put together to see if there might be danger involved.
Generally, when you could obviously see a preditor it wasn't hunting and wasn't very dangerous. It was the hidden predator that was stalking you that would kill you. Your brain can take little pieces of things and put them together in some amazing ways. This allows us to "see" things that are not actually visible in a complete form. If you will look through the grass and move your head side to side it will take all the little slightly different pieces of things from different angles and put them together revealing something that was well hidden.
It does the same with sounds. this is what allows you to "hear" and talk to one person even when you are in a room filled with talking people. If you look at the person that is talking to you your mind will take the movements of the mouth and put it together with the sounds that go with those movements and you can "hear" them pretty clearly. If they turn their heads away you can't hear them at all. The point of this is that even when there is no voices and just noise your mind will nonetheless try to offer you understanding.
I have a fan in my bedroom that I run year-round as a white noise device more than an air mover. I will hear all sorts of things in that white noise. Voices that sound like a new report on the radio is pretty common. Music is also fairly common. Different nights there will be different types of music. I have eventually realized that what I am hearing is somewhat reflective of my mental state that night. I have not figured out what polka music is reflective of but it happens about once a month.
What you may be experiencing a combination of effects. You may have something that wants your attention and then as you have become more attentive to sounds your mind is trying to make sense out of white noise sounds and offering you some of the voices and music from that noise. Sometimes white noise can be so quiet that you won't even be conscious of it unless you stop and listen for it but it can still trigger the ghost sounds.
Instead of fearing the visitor you might try to carefully offer it a little attention. I say carefully because just as all things unknown are not evil you don't want to assume that they are harmless. Treat it as you would any stranger that you meet. Some are friends that you have not met and got to know yet and some you don't want to know. If the visitor is not nice then offering it fears will just encourage it. If it is just noisy and playful then maybe you might make a friend. Most of the mean sort can be removed with sage and a blessing. I suspect that it as much the fact that you are actively telling it to leave as the smoke that sends them away. In either case, most visitors are not truly dangerous as long as you don't open yourself to them.
