Padre Pio

:)
There was a period in Saint Padre Pio's life where the local Bishop ordered him to stop his public Ministry. In his case it was hearing confessions, otherwise he was a typical monk living a life of work and study and prayer.
Many books and articles describe this as unfair. The townspeople were well aware of the miracles surrounding him, thankful because he was always present around their sick and dying, and his confession lines were enormous.
When a person entered the confessional and were less than forthright, he knew it, and would send them away with the admonition to come back when they are ready to be truthful. He already knew all their sins;) He was a stern taskmaster.
I'm going to side with the bishop on this one. St. Padre Pio was put on ice because among the townspeople, there was a cult of personality developed around him. And he did not want this either. St. Padre Pio was pointing everyone towards Christ, meanwhile the townspeople directed their attention towards him. This was hardly an exile as he still demonstrated to them piety and charity. Some say this period was when he was his most effective.

JP2 beatified him in 2002. That is like being a first-ballot hall-of-famer.:D
Good article. Thanks

After the war, a member of that American bombing mission went to visit him. That alone speaks volumes to the authenticity of that event.

Thanks for the expert input on this, Paint! (If you know more about it than me, which ya do, I consider you the expert!)

There was an unsolved mysteries segment about him years back a fascinating man

This was a good article. I didn’t know about his stigmata.

I think the article downplayed it. The stigmata hurt him like hell. Again I can't point to a specific article to back anything up. But I grew up in Catholic circles where everybody knew that this guy was going to be something special......
Here is a little take-away that Padre Pio taught us. This is just stuff that helps in everyday life. Put it in your pocket and go do it:)
"Try to foster humility and charity. When you do, the other cardinal virtues will follow like sheep. "

What he was getting at was to build a strong foundation on your house. And then build a good roof.

You met him?

Nada, but there were a lot of people that eventually became Saints that were talked about in my childhood home, the ball field, and church. Padre Pio was a first round All Star.

The modern criteria for sainthood is often medical miracles. from a Catholic perspective both east and west, and Orthodox - is to ask for the prayers of the dead to help those that are living.
If you score 3 medical miracles, you win a sainthood. I listened to an interview with one of the physicians that investigate these claims. Swiss. Not even Catholic. These investigations are very above board. They say 'no' a lot.

Fun fact: I have a rosary blessed by Pope Paul VI. He is probably next in line.:) And with PP6 sainthood , it will become a relic.:D
Here is the backstory.

My FBI uncle was working on a case in Italy. Made friends with his counterpart in Italian intelligece services. Got a very small audience with Pope Paul 6. He gave the blessed rosary to his father. Pop ! And then it got filtered down to me.:D
