Flight/Planes

If that's all the man said he did really good to hold it back! lol OMG....

That's not really a door in the traditional sense, it's a maintenance access panel of some type.
Does it hurt less if it falls on your head...in the traditional sense, of course..lol

As I've mentioned on an earlier post I grew up under the flight path of Glasgow airport and you get to know the sounds. Summer and school holidays I was at my grandmother's house just a few doors down from my own house. Dad was at work with grandfather, they worked in the same place. Plane is flying overhead but something doesn't sound right and my mother and grandmother say to me have a look out of the window. I see what I now know is a Vickers Vanguard four engine turboprop.

One engine is trailing smoke more than normal, probably at about 800 feet, then I see what looks like a bird near it but descending but withing seconds I realise it's a propeller and down it goes. I remarked to my mother and grandmother that a propeller just fell off of the plane to be greeted by disbelieving looks. As it disappeared behind nearby houses I saw a cloud of debris in the air.

Later that day dad and grandfather get home from work and confirm my story and of course it's a main news story on TV and newspapers next day. The plane made it back to the airport safely, no passengers it was a cargo version.

Years later I find out the house the prop hit was in the same street as my history teacher, the family who lived in the house were on holiday coming home to a destroyed house. I don't have any further details I was seven at the time but I do have several stories living close to planes all my life.

Just to make you guys smile...
