We called it going on holiday here in Scotland. Back in the day we got eight weeks holiday from school in the summer and about half of my class didn't go anywhere except maybe a train ride down the Clyde coast to sit on a damp beach and have fish and chips. The rest of us had Irish parents so off we'd go on the cattle boat to Ireland (yes a real cattle boat as we were poor and the only way to get there cheaply), it could take up to twenty four hours but one hour now.

My grandparents farm was better than an adventure park although much more dangerous. The adventures I had there are for another thread. Where did you go on vacation and what adventures did you have?

Sand dunes with our sandrail or Carbondale PA to visit family or spend summer on my grandmother ranch in Fresno CA

Mom and dad went where we could fish. We always rented a cabin on a lake and I grew up fishing in Kentucky and Wisconsin most of the time. Had my first fishing pole at age 2! Once in a great while we would go to Washington, DC, to see my uncle and take the tour, or take a side trip to the Dells while in Wisconsin. But 90% of vacations were fishing! (I am very good at it and have some skills! lol)

Oh let's not talk about vacations right now. I suspect my mother is spending my inheritance:(.
Boca & Disney. 4 weeks.
Naw I'm happy for her.:p

My most memorable vacation was a little bit disjointed. We were going to French Lick in southern Indiana. That's where NBA Larry Bird is from. There are Sulfur Springs there and they were kind of acting up. The whole place smelled like a toilet and Hell.
So we went down to Lake Monroe and had an absolute blast. Boating and fishing and swimming. And when I went to college at IU I would go down to the hotel on the lake and just sort of make a day of it.:)
I couldn't afford to rent a room or a boat but.......
;)

We went to places in Michigan and Canada mostly. We did visit Niagra falls twice. No fancy vacations ever. My parents found the cheapest hotel without bugs. I would always want the place that had a pool but it was always more money. :( Sadly vacations were usually time in the car while my parents argued about directions. Maybe that’s why I don’t go on vacations. They scared me lol.
