Knives and Multi-function Pocket Tools

Dude, you must have one hell of a pocket!
I just love the part of that site that said " standard army issue from W.W. 2 to desert storm ".....lol.... I didn't realize we needed machetes in the desert....lol.... And I'm not saying these were never issued, but without going into it I will say that I personally never saw one of these as standard issue, and I have seen quite a few items that weren't too common.....wow...some of the claims or exagerations never cease to amaze me....
EDITED to add... I did see it was issued to a few signal corp.s . dousnt look like it was ever an infantry type issue.....but just certain signal corp.s is still not " standard issue".....

Similarly the word "Spetsnaz" gets used as a "magic word" with a lot of products, a name to conjure with.

Now I'm sure this thing is a fine thing, for what it amounts to. But a rummage sale roofing hatchet with the words "Princess Auto" on the handle is also fine, for all you are ever likely to need it for.

I saw those Russian survival machetes (and other military gear) in Moscow, either at Izmailovo Market or one of the shops/stalls on Arbat St. They looked pretty beat up, but don't remember the prices. Wouldn't have tried to get one out of the country, even in checked luggage. The Russian customs folks were known to look for such things, especially with Westerners, and then basically hold you hostage until you coughed enough bribe money to pay your "fine."

yeah, I remember when the spetsnaz "special forces" e-tool was being pushed hard...lol.... one thing you should always remember is that military contracts go to the lowest bidder.....lol......we had so much private gear it was ridiculous.... but 2 things I did always like was the large "alice pack" and the poncho liners, they were great blankets....
oh and if you do like that machete, gerber makes a replica called the gerber machete pro for about half the cost of the new woodspal.... just throwing that out there.....on all the blade forums it is said that the new ones are really no better than any other brand.

My favorite "private gear" story was the B-2 crews napping on $10 Walmart lounge chairs during 30+ hour missions against Yugoslavia. Somewhere there is a photo of one of the crewmembers going up the crew entry ladder with his helmet bag in one hand, and the lounge chair in the other.

I had one that was my grandfather's, it was good for branches and things, unfortunately it got "borrowed".
