When I was 16, a couple girlfriends and myself went out drinking on a supposed old highway. We saw a cop pass us so we threw the beers out the window. Cop not only busted us/me for open containers but also for littering! Then I proceeded to drive home and missed a sharp turn and ended up broadsiding a tree. Crept home in the crumpled car (my parents car,of course). I told them we were at MacDonalds and as we came out we saw someone pulling away and left the car with a giant dent. Fortunately we cleaned off all the branches. Next morning, my dad found more beer in the trunk. I had a very quiet summer at home my junior year. ;0)View attachment 17306
WHAT ARE YOUR BEST DRIVING STORIES? WHAT'S HAPPENED TO YOU OUT THERE ON THE ROAD?
My story is about creepy people too, but I wasn't driving, my husband was. We were returning from visiting his family in Maine, and stopped at a rest area in Massachusetts. I noticed a guy just standing there, in the empty parking lot. Hubby wanted to visit the restroom and I didn't need to, so I opted to stay in the car.Last year, I was messing with my iphone and decided to take an off ramp while I was driving on highway 99 from SanFrancisco to l.a. to sort it out. That part of the highway was just farmland and orchards. As I took the off ramp I pulled into an open gravel area that could not be seen from the highway. As I was messing with the phone, I looked up to see a large truck with giant tires in it. I didn't pay much attention to it but I did think it was weird that we were in the middle of nowhere and this person decided to park their giant truck within feet of my car. out of the corner of my eye I see this guy walking making a bee-line for my car. There was something wrong with the way he was coming up to my back driver side bumper. looked at him and said "hey, you scared me!" The guy didn't break stride, kept coming at me and said "Oh, I don't wanna scare you!" As he did that he put his hands in front of him to show me,what? That he didn't have a gun?! As soon as I saw that move with his hands, my foot slammed on the gas and I took off seconds before he would have reached my window. I had a horrible feeling that that man meant to do me harm. I believe if my foot had not have slammed on that gas pedal, I would not be here today. If ever I had angelic intervention, it was on that day. I still get a horrible feeling when I think of that day.
I have goosebumps. You describe the experience very well. ChillsMy story is about creepy people too, but I wasn't driving, my husband was. I noticed that the strange guy was looking over in my direction. His clothing looked too new, as if he'd just taken the things out of packaging and worn them. Then, like a flash, I thought just released from jail!" I could see the whole thing; him being handed clothing, him being processed out, and leaving the prison. The pictures came in a flash, and I suddenly felt afraid. I could feel this guy's energy from halfway across the parking lot, and the terror was like nothing I had ever experienced. The energy was a combination of remorseless cruelty, mixed with a kind of innocence. As if he would kill or maim a small animal and then stand there, fascinated as he watched it die. Very slowly, I pushed down the locks and pretended to be searching in my purse for something as he slowly approached the car and pretended to look into a trash can, while staring at me. When my husband returned from the restroom, the man slowly walked away. I didn't know if he saw my husband as a threat, but the fact that he would even approach the car knowing that another man would be returning any minute was unnerving. I can still feel the blinding terror that I felt that day!
Wow that was good and fast thinking by your friend. Probably saved your lives. My mate and I were driving out in the country at night when we were 17.We slowed down as a guy was frantically flagging us down on the roadside. We pulled up and the guy told us he had flipped his car and his wife had died in the crash. There was a car up ahead upside down in a ditch. The guy went to pick up his coat and get in my car when my mate locked the door.We drove up to the car and it was an old wreck, been there for ages.I looked in the mirror and the guy was walking up with a pistol.I floored the gas and we were gone.We heard later on the radio a escaped murderer had killed a motorist on that highway.
great story, and you described that experience very well also....Gee whizz., '72 Chevy Impala convertible.
