I'm not talking about romantic love but at what age did you discover something that would become a life long interest and maybe even a career?

Before I started school I was fascinated by the night sky, those wee bright dots up there. Before long I learned it was call astronomy and it became a passion. My aunt got me a telescope for Christmas when I was eleven, no table top wee thing it was taller than me with all the kit to inspire a pro (equatorial mount). Viewing the planets and the Moon was breathtaking.

I studied astronomy at university but never worked in that field. I don't even have a telescope anymore but still spend time just watching the night sky, go somewhere that has no light pollution it will amaze you.

Anyways, what did it for you what was your first love?

I always had an interest in how things work. I'm not sure when I first became aware that mechanical objects are made up of even smaller mechanical objects. I wanted to know how and why things operated they way that they do. When things failed or broke, I wondered why. Later, I would take things apart and study them. I do recall at age three or four getting a toy truck for my birthday. It had moving parts which I loved.

I also had great science teachers, from elementary thru high school. They made studying science fun. That foundation kept my interest in science all my life. I also met my first girlfriend in a science class. We we're lab partners. She had no great interest in science, but I had an interest in her. We were best friends.

Some would say that fate brought Anne and I together, that we were meant to meet. Without that science class, we would most likely never have become friends. We went our separate ways after that year; still good friends, but not like our first year together.

Paulm,I appreciate that more than you could ever know:p

Baseball, specifically the Chicago White Sox, and history made its imprint at an early age. Like Christie said, I got lucky to have some really good teachers. Plus my Dad and my Grandpa loved history and read very serious books .( I inherited their book collections.) In my late forties I started a four-year study of World War 1 coinciding with the hundredth anniversary.
The studies reached back to Napoleonic times and forward to the five years after the war that were equally as bloody. Much of this occurred during the Russian Revolution and the 13 brand new countries that were born out of World War 1 Europe. A lot of the fighting lined up on ethnic and religious lines and score settling.
And that's off topic but you naturally know that I was going to babble on.:D
I first saw the White Sox at Comiskey Park in 1977. To this day I remember how my first view of the field took my breath away. We stepped off of the concours and started walking up the steps to our section. You're looking up and seeing nothing but blue sky ( stepping higher) and then the roof on the upper deck , and then you look down upon a perfect green ball field and the reddish sand & clay on the infield. It was perfect:).

Fun fact : the3rd generation groundskeeping company still does the maintenance work at Sox Park. They expanded a bit and have built more than one-third of Major League Baseball Fields, all of the popular horse race tracks, and soccer and Polo Fields for Saudi royalty and European clubs.
Sorry I'm rambling but I'm waiting for my Mom to get out of the beauty shop.

.

theres nothing more beautiful than a baseball diamond before the game, when you step out and see it, it immediately takes you to another time.
same with a baseball bat, I have a Louisville slugger in the corner of my office, most see it as just a piece of milled wood, but for me its like a magic wand. it holds the dreams of millions of children. the memories of little league through high school, the pre game jitters and the after game celebrations, to hold it transports me back to my youth..its so much more than just a piece of white ash, its what dreams are made of. for many it becomes a piece of their soul, and for them seeing a ball field is like gazing into heaven.

Horses. Not sure when. But very young. Training & working with horses. I’d set up jump courses in my backyard as a kid having the dog work over height & spread variables as a horse-substitute..lol. I was absolutely nuts over horses. I think Lynne gets me on this one. ; )

Dogs, and hunting with them is my passion. So much so I've had to live in some sketchy places so I could have them.Even now I live in an isolated area partly due to my dogs, but mostly because I'm an empath and its a lot easier than dealing with society if it was close by.
