beetroot
You stumped me with the beetroot Tony. I had to look that one up. State-side we call them “beets”.
beetroot
Fairly standard lettuce, tomato, green peppers (not the hot ones I'm not sure what you would call them in the US), olives, beetroot, red onion.
I make my own dressing, olive oil, lemon juice, crushed garlic.
Tony, are there still "Harvester" restaurants in the UK? That chain was the only restaurant I ever ate in the UK or Ireland with a US style salad bar. Usually "salad" on a menu meant a piece of lettuce, a few olives, a little corn, maybe a dallop of mayonnaise.
I’m laughing at how long this thread is, we are such foodies here lol.
I'm making up a huge salad today myself. My standby in case the lights go out! lolOh boy this topic is right up my alley. My home is the home of "the three gallon salad" I put it together all at once in a big container and it should last 5 days. I try to make this three times a month.( It makes my pants fit.)
Iceberg and red leaf lettuce. Red onion and green pepper. Cucumber.Celery. Shaved carrot. Black olives. Cherry tomatoes when in season. Sometimes I add watercress or kale.
And as I make each salad, for variety I'll do each differently. For protein I'll add hard boiled egg whites or chicken. And some sort of cheese and croutons depending on the dressing. Usually a store-bought Greek or Italian vinaigrette jazzed-up with basil & oregano.
If I'm burning a lot of calories that day I'll add ham with eggs and a ranch dressing.
The little neighbor girl loves vegetables as much as I do. She calls it 'Dirt Candy'
Lynne, all I have to do is name a food and we're off! lolI’m laughing at how long this thread is, we are such foodies here lol.

Beets. Please NO or I'll gag. And no Blue Cheese dressing! OMG...it makes me ill.How about items you DO NOT like on you salad? For me it's cucumber, frisee, and vinegar and oil dressing. I hate vinegar and oil dressing, growing up that's the only dressing my Mom used. I was in my early teens before I realized there were dressings other than vinegar and oil, and for that reason I did not like salad.
