Childhood TV

it was here in the 70's, but it was a Japanese series....maybe this will remind you of your time in japan...lol

Yes it does Paul. But some few of the things that remind me most of my time in Japan can’t be posted in a video on the PNF. I was a teenager so you can guess about the behaviors.

Actually, have some really lovely memories of that time too. In fact, the scene in Karate Kid 2 where the characters attend the Obon Festival is one. In my last weeks there, I ran across that festival - a total random discovery in the night - and it was gorgeous...just as awesome as it looked in the movie.

Love the culture, did you ever feel like gaijin or was acceptance pretty good.

I lived on the American occupied island of Okinawa during the first few years after it was returned back to Japanese control. The local Japanese nationals lived with a constant American presence for 27 years so by the time I got there I was just one of a long history of a million foreigners. But, the Japanese people never made me feel like I was not welcome. I found the local people to be, as a whole, very pleasant; and even being a teenage, I felt very safe being alone with them.

that's cool, I worked for a Japanese company in my 20's, always very polite ppl, sometimes at the point of forcefull politeness,(sure you know what I meen, lol)... did you become fluent in Japanese while you were there?, I learned enough to get by but have gotten extremely rusty over the past 30 years,...oh well as long as I remember "ichi nama biru kudasai" and "toile wa doku desu ka" I would be ok....lol

No, my Japanese was no better than yours. I learned only enough to be polite and to navigate.
