Next week I will be starting a new research project and I've been musing about the sources that I'd like to use for my research. One source on my wish list is a business journal that I used to read twenty years ago. The subscription was pretty expensive but my company had a corporate subscription back then; so it was essentially free to me. I was always the first to grab each bi-monthly issue of the journal when it hit our mailbox. Of course, I know that I can't afford a subscription myself and I can't really justify asking my company to subscribe again just because I want to use it as a resource in the short-term.

Though my company has an office just 20 miles from my home, I have spent almost the entirety of the last two years working from home. A week ago I was requested to come to the office to move my personal and business materials into another area to make room for remodeling work being done in the immediate area near my cubicle. I pushed back on that request and asked if I could delay by one week because of my then-current heavy schedule.

Now fast forward to today - the day to which I'd delayed my office visit. As I was walking through our reception area, a lonely magazine sitting on the front desk caught my eye. I could tell even from a distant glance at the cover that it was in fact the same business journal I used to read 20 years ago. Recalling that I was just thinking about that journal in the past week, I thought I'd take a chance at grabbing it while no one is around, read it, and then return it to the reception area tomorrow.

I picked it up and...that journal is in fact addressed to me. It is addressed to me and my new job title. Not having time to actually read the journal today, and recognizing that "stealing" it for a quick look is no longer a risk I have to take, I did peruse just the cover and...the lead article for this issue is the exact topic I will start researching next week.

I guess my Guardian Angel works for the US Postal Service.

[Editing to add too that...] This does not look like a complimentary journal issue; this looks to me to be a routine subscription. Sooner or later my interest will be especially peeked and I'll call the journal's subscription department to see if they can tell me how it is that I got this thing.

Nothing brings a smile to my face like things working out for people. That's really neat and I'm glad you shared :)

Wands this is crazy synchronistic!!! You know when you do ask who ordered the subscription I already know who did .....YOU! there will be no explication and all our minds will be blown.

You know Lynne, when I ended that post by editing in that statement, I though, "Their answer is going to be 'me' and I'm going to have to be ready to ask more." So I've already prepared myself to ask "And, on what date did I make that request?" Their answer to that could be even more creepy - what if they told me the subscription was received on the morning of 10/16/18! (or even in the few days before) That would make me think that my desire for access to that journal was answered by "something" requesting the subscription for me. EEEKEKEKK.

If that's what I learn, then my next request will be for winning lotto numbers!

EXACTLY MY THOUGHTS ON THIS!!! Your will makes things happen. Please ask the journal gods to send me a new bath tub. I’m presently saving up for a remodel lol.

I'll be certain to do so. I had two bathrooms remodeled last year. And, then comes the paid advertisement. So extremely long story made short Lynne, I hated the process of looking for a general contractor but I had too because I'm not skilled in that area. I found out that Lowes has a national service for remodels. Met with them, and after prior research left me feeling that all contractors wanted to tell me "No we can't do that", Lowes said "Yes, and we can do more too." Their work was superior to anything I'd expected. After the success of the masterbath remodel, we've contracted with Lowes to do three other major project for us including completely removing and rebuilding our staircase.

Though they are more expensive than other contractors, you absolutely get what you pay for. And, they can do small parts of jobs too - the things that you can't or don't want to do. For example, I didn't hire them to paint walls because I do that pretty well; but I am terrible with the wood trim so they painted everything that was wood.

I have even referred a friend to them who also had multiple large projected done this past year. He told me earlier this week that we was incredibly impressed with their results.

So I did follow up on the surprising magazine thang Lynn.

I called the subscription/circulation phone number to ask how it is that I received this magazine. They indicated that it is related to a subscription I had in 2003 through 2006. Apparently the publisher chose to send a series of complimentary issues to past subscribers (I’d suspect in order to generate new orders) and the (old) info they had on file for me happen to fit the targeted profile for that publisher’s campaign.

So synchronistic that this first complimentary issue arrived by mail at my office address just one day before I chose to visit that office because I’ve been working from home for over two years.
