Though relationships are magickal in many ways, ours could have been baking "in the stars" for awhile. I'm referring of course to me and my girlfriend (GF). Let me explain - we've been together for over 19 years but we've known each other for 30 years. Though we only coupled up in 1999, which was after the first two events below, I'll still refer to her as my GF throughout this post.

We have come from different lifestyles, yet somehow we've come together. She and her family are well educated; I and my family are not. Her family was middle class; my family was lower class. She was born in and lived her entire life in San Diego; my military family lived in several countries and moved frequently while I was still in grade school.

First to tell is our meeting - we met at work. When one of the managers walked my GF around to introduce her to coworkers, I shook her hand and thought instantly, "This is someone who I would really like to get to know." I've never had that same thought about anyone else before - not even with really important people. I'd kept that little inner thought a secret from my GF until about five years ago. It was nice to finally reveal that special moment to her. So there, a seemingly not-too-mystical first meeting.

Next, we worked for a young company and as we were all growing in our careers together, we became friendly and often partied with coworkers; in fact, several of us lived together for awhile. One weekend night a coworker had a big board game party which my GF and I both attended. One of the board games was Pictionary and we two were paired up as a Team. The more rounds of Pictionary that we played, the easier it became for me to quickly guess the answers. My GF started to notice a pattern and started testing that supposed pattern on her own by thinking hard about the answers and finding that I could quickly guess them correctly. I think it was probably after about three attempts at this kind of testing, she slightly twisted what would be the final test. She put her pencil to the paper, held it still, looked directly into my eyes, and focused hard on the target image everyone was supposed to draw. But before the timer could be turned on to start the round, I guessed the correct answer. No drawings, no clues from other competitors, just my GF's gaze. My GF jumped up and down and clapped her hands, and her face had the widest grin possible. As she told me later that night, she had confirmed that I had read her thoughts. So that was a step up to a slightly more mystical interaction than we had previously had.

Now jump forward to 2003, we'd been together then for about four years, and we made the decision to move to Florida at the request of our employer. Getting ready for that move was very hectic and we were pulled in all different directions by requests from family and friends to invest more and more time with them before we moved. One of those family members was her Aunt and her Aunt's husband. For several reasons, my GF politely rejected her Aunt's requests; but at some point she became insistent. I got the clear impression that one of the reasons that my GF rejected her Aunt's requests was because her Aunt was seen by their family as quite the eccentric - very "woo woo" with her beliefs in the powers of crystals and the like. I reminded my GF that there is no one on the planet who is any more "woo woo" than me therefore no reasons to fear our meeting. We (still somewhat reluctantly) met for dinner and exchanged introductions. During dinner, my GF's Aunt said, "I'm sorry Wands. I still don't think I caught your last name." I repeated my last name for her. And she said, "Was your father's first name 'Wands' Dad'?" And I told it that it was. She then asked, "And was your mothers first name 'Wand's Mom'?". And again she was right. She went on to tell my GF and me that she used to work with my parents back in the 1960s and said that "Your Dad had a wonderful sense of humor". So had we not made it to dinner just before moving out of San Diego, I would never have learned that in that huge city, my GF's Aunt actually knew both of my parents. That was one of the single warmest tiny pieces of news I have ever learned.

Lastly, jump ahead to 2015. One night I was laying on the sofa with my iPad doing lots of random searches. At some point I decided to run some searches on my paternal Grandparents. And, one of the very few hits I got was on a page from an old (1930s I believe) white pages telephone directory - the page had been torn from the San Pedro (California) telephone book - it was scanned and apparently OCR'ed so that the text from the page was searchable. On that electronic image of the torn page was my Grandparents' names. I recalled too that my GF's grandparents also used to live in San Pedro at some point too. After several failed attempts at a similar search, I started monkeying with the characters in the web address in order to simulate paging through that phone book because the entire telephone book wasn't scanned - only some parts of it were. However, after enough tries I found a page from the same white pages book that had my GF's grandparent's names on it. Then I looked up the addresses for both families on Google Maps and found they lived fewer than eight blocks apart in the same year. That's when my GF reminded me that her grandfather was in the Navy at that time...just like mine was.

So I like to dream that maybe, 50 years before we met, our grandparents might have known each other too. Then about 25 years later, her Aunt met my parents; and, 25 years after that, though coming from different backgrounds, we met. Destiny. Conspiracy.

That is certainly destiny! I have a similar story. Short version...

When I was a teen, I went to a camp that took a trip to Franklin, IN. Closest town to me now and where I shop is Franklin. Turns out I had met my future husband on that trip and didn't even realize that until we had been married about 10 years.

When I met my husband, it was through a dating service. His ex wife had the same EXACT first, middle and last name as me.

He proposed to me on the first date....during a viewing of The Exorcist. I turned him down. I also scared the heck out of him by explaining all the finer points of the movie.

Love your love story Debi. Life is magickal. So are scary movies apparently.

How did your husband ultimately respond to your mystical side? How long was it before you accepted his second(?) proposal?

My GF is very fact-based. So she only wants to accept what she sees with her own eyes. Since she has seen only several instances of my psychic and mystical side - but finds it hard to accept all of the events that she has not seen - she has incorrectly interpreted that she is the "source" for my skills. She says that I can do what I do mystically because of her. I have to keep reminding her that since we've lived together my mystical occurrences have nearly dropped off the chart. So I tell her that though she might be my personal muse, she is also my psychic dampener!

Ever watched the old TV series Dharma and Greg? Well, that would be us. He's so straight laced and proper I'm amazed his tie never strangled him...lol We are polar opposites. Since I have always been very upfront on my woowoo side, he knew it comin' in the door. He didn't really accept the reality of it until the time something finally held him against the wall...with his feet off the floor. He quickly became a believer after that. And he hates it when I read his mind so I try not to....at least most of the time. :p He's been wise in that he has never tried to change that part of me. I told him that was the one part of me he better never mess with and he's followed that rule. My spiritual and mystic side are my core.

I accepted his proposal at Xmas...about 2 months after we met. He was pretty insistant. We got married on Valentine's Day....so he could remember the date. We now have our youngest son and our grandson who have the same gifts as I do. He's really had no choice but to become a believer in it! He's surrounded.

So two months isn’t long - you didn’t hold out too long.

My GF is the one and only person whose thoughts I have ever purposely read and that is because she knowingly put herself out there for that attempt while playing Pictionary. For me, peoples private thoughts are in their heads because that’s where they want them. Only if someone has an intent to share something do I ever seem to catch on to their thoughts.

That's one thing I have always always always been very adamant about. Respecting others privacy. I don't go looking unless invited. Or I need to know what hubs really wants for Xmas...:p

That is a great use of psychic gifts - researching ideas for gifts for others. That could solve so many problems - how cool for the Yule!

Mrs Duke and I got married on Valentine's Day as well. I did it figuring it would save me money, buying one gift vice two per year over the life of our marriage.
