Take me out to the Ballgame....

I remember Doc Ellis.
I read a few years ago there maybe a movie in the works. Out of uniform he was really Super Fly !
And speaking of The Swinging 70s, I was talking to my neighbor yesterday. He grew up with Charlie Finley and his kids. Gary Indiana.

Here are two books that I read and thoroughly enjoyed:

These books are really excellent sketches of the era's sociology, history, and culture through the lens of baseball. And you will gain a great sympathy for Billy Martin. Working for Steinbrenner was like living in a combat zone. Billy lived on scotch and cigarettes in the late 70s.

It does seem like that at times as announcers spit out stat after stat.

Someone once said of a batter " see the ball, hit the ball " in a manner to uncomplicate the game. As a kid, I didn't think about stats. I just liked hitting the ball.

Hit the ball. Catch the ball. Throw the ball. Get 'em on. Get 'em over. Get 'em in.
Simple. :)
The New York Post had an article about using analytics and sabermetrics in the dugout. It seems the front office is tying the hands of the managers requiring them to overuse this data. (The writer named several teams). The tinkering with the pitcher and batter matchups is out of hand. It's a race to the bottom to play 'not to lose.'
Here's my two cents..
And it makes the game take too long. And the broadcast booth sounds like my statistics classes in graduate school. And half the time I don't know what the heck they're talking about. Retired players are speaking out about "nerds in he dugout."

The irony is I think these statistics are used by the front office and management to CYA, and the players agents use it to bludgeon the front office for bigger contracts.:(

I was talking to my neighbor. 1 month ago I saw this team turn into something great. Thatthe White Sox were down by 7 runs against the Yanks. But they battled back and they did everything right. I said this is where the whole thing turns right now.
We just won 5 series. :)
2020 ! The neighbor looks at me like I'm some baseball savant.
Maybe.
