What was your most embarrassing incident relative to giving or receiving a gift?

My Dad was not the kind who laughed easily, but two comedians from back in the day, Red Skelton and Moms Mabley, could have him in tears laughing so hard. Mabley, who appeared frequently on the TV variety shows of the late 60s/early 70s, was an older black woman who sounded like she gargled with gravel. For Christmas one year I bought my Dad a Moms Mabley album, and after Christmas dinner the whole family (plus a few extended family members) sat down to listen to Dad's gift. Within minutes, Moms launched into an extremely vivid, vulgar routine that would have embarrassed a longshoreman. Moms was quickly replaced with a Christmas album, I thought my Mom was going to have a stroke. The album disappeared, never to be seen/heard again.

In those pre-internet days, the only Moms we knew was the one we saw on Ed Sullivan, Flip Wilson, and Hollywod Palace. We did not know she was known for her "blue" comedy in her live stage shows and comedy albums.

But what did your Dad think of the gift ? Was he surprised, laughing, shocked ?

Until he heard it, he loved it. Listening to it he was clearly shocked, he/we had no idea she did X rated comedy. Dad was not a prude, but he would never have knowingly listened to such material in front of his family.

For my 25th birthday, my staff surprised me by hiring a stripper to come to our office. I know that is hard to accept but my staff actually got the prior approval of our HR Officer to do it.

As sedate and family-friendly as the entertainment was planned to be, that is not how it actually went down. The dancer turned out to be a girl I dated in high school; so to return the favor for breaking up with her years earlier, she ramped up the show and got a lot more "aggressive" than the parties had agreed to.

Lots of questionable photos taken that day.

Needless to say that was the last stripper ever allowed into our offices.

familiar story, i was on vacation from work I decided to go to the gentlemen's club as you call em, I was always drinking in those days I was hammered that night because it was the last night of my vacation pfft anyway, who do I see on stage. GUESS My girlfriend's sister Who HATES or hated me I really wasn't quite sure it was her BUT she made it a point to come sit at my table shortly after her little pole throttling event. She never did say anything but if she would have I would most likely have lied.

This didn't happen to me, but I was witness to it. I had arranged for a group to come into my nursing home and give gifts to each of the residents. All the gifts were the same, and given from a church in much love. One of the gifts in each box was a pair of socks. When the child gave the gift to my patient with no legs, he was suddenly mortified. He kept telling my little old man "I'm sorry! I'm sooo sorry!" At that point my darling patient hugged the child and said, "Thank you so very much! I sure did need hand warmers for my chilly mornings! Look how good this will work for me!" He prmptly slid the socks on his hands kind of making them into mittens and spent the rest of the evening with this child showing him how warm his hands would be because of his gift.

Just had to add this story of how to take embarrasement and change it to a gift of love.

My husband and I have like no shame, so we're usually the gift-givers who try to embarrass our friends. We've had vibrating rings, vibrators, paddles, whips, you name it. Anyone and everyone. SO many red faces!

Hey it’s 2018 what do you expect lol. But I guarantee you their looks of “disgust” and “shock” went away once everyone went home :p
