Help Understanding My Experiences

If either of them are here/check in, I wouldn’t want to drive them out
Smudging does no harm to those spirits of the light. It simply cleanses the energy in the space from dark to light, so any spirits of light and love are unharmed by it.

That’s both comforting and terrifying. Comforting to hear that it most likely wasn’t my mom, but terrifying that something would use her image to hurt me.

My mom and I were close. She was one of my best friends. It was incredibly hard when she passed. She was never abusive, but she was mentally ill which was hard, but I always knew she loved me.
I’m glad you had a good relationship with your mom.

Ive come to the conclusion that you’re dealing with an attachment of sorts. I believe what attacked you in the one SP episode and the thing that digs into you when you are reading or watching paranormal related stuff or talking about it, is demonic.

I don’t know what to make of the benign events like the spirits you’ve seen that don’t seem to be harming or intimidating you though.

Personally I’ve found that sage smoke can purge all energies out, to give you sort of a “clean slate” for all the energy in your house. But that’s because I use a lot of sage :D

TarotSara, palo santo wood is also great for smudging as well. I prefer that smell anyways. Smells kinda like frankincense with a hint of citrus :)

To my knowledge, I have no idea if anyone else has had those experiences outside of my and my great aunt. I know she had occasionally smelled her mother’s perfume and her father’s cigar smoke long after they passed in her house (it was theirs prior and they both passed in the house). I’ve seen an apparition of my great grandmother in that same house, although that experience wasn’t negative like the bothersome things (I stayed up late doing things I wasn’t supposed to, she stood in the doorway with the “you should be asleep” grandmotherly expression. Nothing scary or bad). In general, my family is /was very “we don’t talk about spirits, demons, or things like that”.

I will try smudging and the prayer. I have just tried ignoring all of it, but I just don’t think that’s really an option anymore. Thank you.

I honestly don’t think it’s an entity attached to the building, it feels more familiar than that but not in a good way. We do know of one death that happened in the building, which was my husband’s grandma (building has been in his family for generations). I don’t think the shoulder feeling and pain is her. The times I’ve smelt her perfume has always been times of just warm feelings. A few times a recording my grandfather made for me started playing randomly as well and just repeating the “I love you Sara” part, even though the batteries were fresh. If either of them are here/check in, I wouldn’t want to drive them out, but I don’t think this is either of them because neither of them would seek to physically hurt me.
Would smudging get rid of the good relative spirits too? I have no idea. I'd hold off on that unless someone can say otherwise. And welcome to the forum!
The left shoulder thing is interesting. Have you ever heard of the tradition of throwing salt over your left shoulder to ward off bad luck? It goes back to the belief that the devil was sitting there. Salt is used to ward of evil spirits so... The devil thing is a specifically Christian interpretation, but I guess it was to deal with some sort of left shoulder bothering spirit. I've never heard of anyone ever actually having one of those, but here you are.
So, it may sound ridiculous (and may actually be ridiculous) but salt is cheap, so next time you think about the paranormal maybe you could have some salt handy and try it? Best case: it works and you are rid of your problem with no hassle or bother. Worst case: we will all know it doesn't work!

Hi Sara. welcome to the forum,& Thank you for sharing your story, I know that's not an easy thing to do. I haven't been a member here long but I will say that everyone here is amazing & will do what they can to help you so please be assured your safe here. I think of everyone here as an extension of my family & love them all.

1) You mentioned that you had been on antidepressants approx. 10 years ago I'm sorry to bring this up but it is important to know :( Was this related to your mother's passing or other influences occurring in your life? If you don't mind answering? I do agree with everyone else, the experience of SP you had afterwards was Not your mother, the down side of these tragedies is that negative or dark entities feed off of emotions & you were the target. Just know that they were just using a symbol of your mother to feed into your state of mind to produce more energy for themselves.

2) Do you work outside your home? And if so has there been any recent changes in your work environment that may have caused some sort of conflict (even minor) between yourself & another co worker? Or has there been any new conflicts between your spouse & you or someone else your close to (a friend or someone you spend a lot of time with)?

3) When you watch or start thinking about paranormal matters does your mind tend to focus on a certain thing? (I'm trying to figure out a way to say this, but basically do you start thinking I'm having experiences & maybe the entities you are encountering are trying to send you a message or do you feel like your being drawn to these topics bc you feel like your looking for an answer to things happening around you? )

Sorry about all the questions but your answers will help me to hopefully give you some answers or advice. But props to you for staying away from the board, that is the wisest thing you can do. And as Debi has said, using prayer & smudging / cleansing is a good place to start. I smudge & cleanse my house often & it has never affected my loved ones who have passed from being able to still make their presence known whenever they pop in so to speak :) Just remember that when you are doing this that you protect yourself (just picture yourself surrounded in a ball of white light full of love & positive energy) and call upon whatever faith you have to help empower you while your doing the cleansing.

Hi Sara. Welcome to the PNF.

I see that you’ve already been communicating with a worthy group of veteran and newbies from the forum.

Most of my experiences are with psychic events - connections with living persons. I’ve only had a couple of ghostly/spirit encounters that I recognize.

At 56 years old, I still don’t seem to have ever had an incident of sleep paralysis. However, my just-waking state is a very, very psychic part of my day. I’ve received a material percentage of my premonitions during the hypnopomic state - that’s the period of physiological transition from sleep to wakefulness. Though sleep paralysis seems to be a real physical event, because of my own hypnopomic psychic experience, I can easily accept that something seriously paranormal is likely to occur then too. It’s not hard to imagine then that someone who is experiencing sleep paralysis, who then also has a paranormal experience at the same time, could feel remarkably fearful and/or vulnerable.

I’m sorry to read that your Mom had mental illness and that it influenced her life. My Dad almost certainly had undiagnosed mental illness caused by his experiences in WWII and the Korean War. You could infrequently see in his eyes and on his face that he would just zone...deeply zone...like not there at all. But he was very rarely abusive. He’s been gone now 29 years as of last week and I still miss him. I’m convinced that with whatever he was dealing with inside his head, he still loved me. Glad you have similar confidence in your relationship with your Mom.

You are smart Sara to sense the need to keep the Ouija board stored away. Our general concern for anyone thinking about using one is that, even accidentally, they might come into contact with someone/something they don’t know and then end up with a long term, and possibly dangerous, attachment to that entity.

As for the sensations you perceive over your left shoulder, I’m kind of stumped. I know that when I watch some paranormal themed TV shows - especially when I’m alone - I’ll get a little tingling of fear mixed with excitement in anticipation. If the show has especially ethereal or creepy music, that will ratchet the tingling up too. Could a similar tingling feeling be felt further down in your shoulder while mine seems to occur in my head? But why the left shoulder is important to you, I don’t know. Since I don’t have much experience with ghosts and spirits, I feel unable to comment on any likely causes for the poking sensation.

Is smudging going to be enough to get rid of something that’s demonic and how do I figure out what caused the attachment? If it is something attached to me, is it possible it’s the same thing that was bothering me when I was 12 at my dad’s house (I’ve heard that demons will often mimic little girls and will knock on things)? I just want to make sure before I do anything to remove it/deal with it, because if it is the same thing it has no problem attaching itself/bothering kids. I don’t want to remove my attachment only for it to go after my son.

I’m not bothered by the benign events. They’re fairly infrequent and for the most part have been loved ones.

When I was on medication, it was before my mom’s passing. It was when I was in high school. I tried a few medications over 2 years before my doctor realized it wasn’t helping and mostly it was just rough life circumstances and not depression. I had a few experiences when on medication, but there’s no way to tell if it was the meds or genuine.

I’m a stay at home mom, but I occasionally do tarot readings for a few regular clients. No new conflicts there. There’s some stress with establishing my business a bit more and balancing home, but no true conflicts about it (as far as I’m aware).

I don’t really focus on anything in particular, I just find ghost stuff fascinating. I do try to actively avoid shows/talks of demons because it’s the one thing that really bothers me/brings on those sensations. But it’s only been recently that I’ve really been into watching it. My husband did note that I seem to have been drawn to it seemingly out of the blue.

Thank you. It’s quite possible it’s just a fear tingling for me (I really hope it is). It’s just bizarre that it happens for me beyond just watching the shows. Like anytime I try to type it out here, that side of my body gets cold. The longer I spend typing, the more it pushes into my shoulder, first slight pressure then pain. It happens regardless of time of day or any active fear feelings. It’s such a difference in temperature my husband can fully feel it when touching my shoulders. He’s not a believer in ghosts/spirits either.

Sorry, I didn’t see this. I have heard of throwing salt over the shoulder, but I didn’t know it had a particular side. Thank you, I will try it.

Smudging in my opinion won’t do anything about demons. It sorta helps, but I believe that faith in God, and invoking the name of Christ is the only way. But after that it doesn’t hurt to smudge and ward your house if you aren’t quite sure.

I follow a variation of the “rules of engagement” when dealing with malicious spirits. No need to call in the artillery if using your big person words will do fine. If I want them out, I firmly and politely order them to leave. I don’t ask, I order, because it’s my house and I call the shots. If that doesn’t work, I go for prayer, and fully cleansing my house. If that doesn’t work, personally I blast heavy metal like Demon Hunter or Underoath, while getting out my palo santo wood to scleanse the rooms, anoint every doorway with oil, and ward the home with cascarilla (eggshell powder) around the perimeter. Cascarilla is apparently good enough to set up magic circles to summon some notoriously dangerous demons, so I trust it to keep almost anything out.

I also back up what Debi says about the St. Michael prayer.
Another couple good ones are here.

And this is the St. Benedict medal with an exorcism on one side.

This medal says this

C. S. S. M. L. (Crux Sacra Sit Mihi Lux): “The Holy Cross be my light”

N. D. S. M. D. (Non Draco Sit Mihi Dux) “May the dragon never be my guide!”

Around the edge of the medal are more letters that stand for the Latin exorcism prayers:

V. R. S. (Vade Retro Satan): “Get away, Satan”
N. S. M. V. (Not Suade Mihi Vana): “Never tempt me with your vanities!”
S. M. Q. L. (Sunt Mala Quae Libas): “What you offer me is evil.”
I. V. B. (Ipse Venena Bibas): “Drink the poison yourself!”
