My family and I lived at a large property called Gladstone villa in the former mining town of Bargoed which is in the Caerphilly county borough of the South Wales valleys, near Cardiff, this was throughout the 1970's.

We experienced things that simply defied rational explanation like footsteps that would be heard walking around the main bedroom when we'd all be downstairs watching television, one of us would turn the volume down to hear it more clearly!

We also had minor poltergeist activity, lights would go off and on, I witnessed electrical cables being pulled by unseen forces and my grandfather claimed that a glass bottle was thrown towards him, just missing him as he entered the main bedroom.

There was also the occasional sighting but this was very rare indeed, so rare in fact that in all the years I was there I didn't actually see it, but my mother did. !

One night my grandfather, my mother, and I were watching television, my grandmother was reading a book on the sofa, when my mother just so happened to look towards her left at my grandmother when she saw the full figure of a monk standing right behind the sofa that my grandmother was on.

None of us saw it as we were otherwise occupied but my mother later described it in detail, with typical brown habit, complete with hood over the head, so she didn't see his face.

My mother said it all started off rather quietly soon after I was born in the August of 1969, she told me she would hear tapping but took very little notice of it at the time.

It got so bad that we slept downstairs with the lights on, and we had the ghost for so long that my grandmother called it Johnny for an amusement.

It increased when the family heard what sounded like somebody jumping from the attic on to the landing floor !

Naturally thinking that somebody was trying to break in, the family went to look to see what was going on, but when they got there they saw nobody but the hatch to the attic was wide open !

Whatever it was eventually occupied itself in the main bedroom, which incidentally belonged to my maternal grandparents and it didn't take long to make its presence felt by waking around the bedroom, this would occur mainly every evening but sometimes in the day !

We left Gladstone villa in the Summer of 1978 when two local business men bought the property and it was eventually converted into a hotel sometime in the 1980's.

This really did happen to us and I challenge any skeptic to stay there, I can assure them that they will indeed most certainly challenge their belief system, I have no doubt about that at all what so ever ! I am deadly serious about that. Check it out !!

Welcome to the forum, Spotless, and thank you for your report of what looks like a very haunted spot. What is the hotel called now?

Hi Debi, thank you so much for your very welcome reply, I am delighted you like my post and it's nice to hear from you. It is uncertain what the property is called now but the last I heard it's going to be turned into a rest home. The place is in Cardiff road in Bargoed if anybody wants to check it out, it really is a genuine case. You may google earth it on street maps. Please make people aware of this property, it's well worth an investigation.
