I live in a very rural county consisting of corn and bean fields, churches and a mall or three for shopping. Imagine my surprise to hear our Sheriff now has an MRAP in the pole barn. Yup, my little county decided to go all military on us, despite already having the National Guard Training Base of Atterbury within the county for our "protection." Our local population is a bit up in arms over the whole thing.

The most frightening comments in the attached article were the following:

"The United States of America has become a war zone" and "It's a lot more intimidating than a Dodge".

The general drift of the article is our police feel that moving towards a militarized police force is the way to go. It's a mind set spreading rapidly throughout America and, as the Sheriff states, he'll try to keep his men from becoming too over enthusiastic about it's use. Once again, the police are supposed to serve and protect, not intimidate the hell out of you! And since when was the U.S. declared a war zone? Did someone sign a bill or something that I missed? How did this mind set become OK?

So where does it stop, in protecting his men in this war zone? Violent crimes are down, that's the stats. Shoot first, ask questions later? Wait, they are already doing that.

This crap is pure overkill, and it is what a police state looks like. This comes from the feds, the money to buy war equipment, except besides the war on drugs, what war are they getting prepared for? When the people finally get fed up with both parties and try to take their country back from these criminals? These treasonous inglorious bastards? Pardon my profanity, but this upsets me like nothing else.

This is NOT what happens in a representative Republic with a Constitution and a Bill of Rights that protects the People from gov't over reach. It is the exact opposite. IMO, this is what an Oligarchy looks like, for an oligarchy is fascism, and we know how fascist states act, as we have a good history of them, and anyone can read about how they operate.

Your statement of "What are they getting prepared for" is exactly my question, Laz! And why is it that we suddenly keep hearing about America is a war zone? Where the hell is that coming from??? I agree, the stats show otherwise, so who's pushing this mindset? Specifically, when did this start and who's pushing it? I want names, people!

I just got back from a trip to town and had to pass the Sheriff's dept. on my way there. Pole barn door was wide open and there are a bunch of guys playing with the darn thing. Like a bunch of kids with a new toy going "Vroom! Vroom!" My son stopped me from pulling in....probably a wise choice on his part since I'd probably just be making bail about now, but I'm much like you. This has me whirling. Sometimes it's easy to discuss things as an abstract as something happening elsewhere, but now it's in my little bitty backwoods county and I'm seeing it with my own eyes.

Fact of the matter is, fascism needs a militarized police force. Democracies and representative republics won't tolerate them.

I have become a great fan of Jesse Ventura in the last year or so. I go to you tube and watch his ORA Off the Grid program, and so far, I agree completely with how he sees things. This is the sort of man we need leading this nation, but I feel he would be assassinated before you could say jumpin jack flash. Of course some crazy would be blamed, but I think we all know who would orchestrate it. Yet even if he were not killed in short order, neither the repubs nor the dems would work with him, but would simply block all measures, and find a way to impeach and remove him from office. We would have to vote most people out of congress and vote in non affiliated people for anything to change. So, it won't change. The graft, the corruption, the failure to keep the oath of office is just too huge, and since both the politicians and the MSM work hard to keep the people divided, hating one another because of ideological beliefs, and we are not intelligent enough to rise above this tribalism, this division, there is little hope.

You know the only thing that would change us? WW3, which would force americans to join hands again as in ww2, to fight off a great enemy, and pull americans back together again, instead of the great division that is America today. This would also force all industry back home, where it belongs, and if we won the war we would be in decent shape again, at least until the oligarchs could get the power back. Which they eventually would, for money equals power and influence.

...the failure to keep the oath of office...
I think that perfectly sums up the current state of affairs in our government. There is no loyalty to the oath anymore. Eric Holder won't appoint a special prosecutor to look into the VA mess because it might hurt Obama, and his loyalty is to Obama and not to the people of the country whose laws he has sworn to uphold.

As for the MRAP, our county Sheriff''s Department just got one of these things, too, as did 6 other law enforcement agencies around the state - most of them within 30 miles of me. This is just part of the Federal agenda to turn local law enforcement into a de facto arm of the military. They're all but begging local law enforcement to take surplus military equipment off their hands. I think the ultimate goal here is to have a legitimate way to deploy a military force on US soil without violating Posse Comitatus.

There are some great police officers out there who take their duty to serve and protect very seriously, but you also have a growing number who see their badge as a license to do whatever the hell they want to, and then to shoot you if you question them. There used to be a fairly high bar on the psyche test for becoming an officer, but finding people to fill the jobs became so difficult that the level was lowered. That, combined with the number of over-aggressive ex-military on the job, is the biggest reason why so many innocent people are being killed by cops these days. And hardly a week goes by that there isn't another story about a family pet being killed because some cop felt "threatened" by it.

Cops are not above the law yet they behave otherwise , occasionally you here some of them are being investigated though prosecutions are rare . I agree there are some really good officers out there and sadly they are definitely in the minority .I remember reading not too long ago about an officer who quit his job because he refused to 'Intimidate ' the public at the request of his superiors . These " Intimidation " tactics are present in society today and with the addition of armoured vehicles, reinforces this ideology and that all of you are " enemies of the state . " The irony of all of this , is that you paid for all these vehicles and could probably be used against you !
