This year continues to be full of lunar phenomenas, with Saturday no exception, as Earth and the Moon reach their closest point in orbit.

This means the Moon could appear up to 14% bigger than normal in some areas.

Armchair astronomers can enjoy live displays and commentary on the event through the internet channel of the Slooh telescope, based on the Canary Islands.

A Slooh spokesman said: "We'll be celebrating the Super Moon as we watch it rise over the horizon on the Eastern US.

"We'll discuss the characteristics of a Super Moon, the importance of the moon to the continued existence of life on Earth, and the cultural significance it has had for humanity through the ages."

The Full Moon will began at 6.35pm (BST) when the Earth will be slap-bang in the middle between the Moon and Sun.

The Super Moon is at its largest on Sunday at 4pm, but the Slooh show will broadcast in the early hours of Sunday during darkness.

Gemma Lavender, an elected fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society, said: "A Super Moon will be an exciting event for keen lunar observers.

"A super moon occurs when it's a new or full moon, which closely coincides with perigee - the Moon's closest point to Earth in its orbit."

AND, of course, my forecast is overcast....:(

It appears everytime we have a good celestial event happening, we somehow have clouds/rain forecast. Perhaps they'll be wrong this time! (One can hope!)
