Many believe that you should not loan hand tools to a neighbor. Should they not return these in a timely manner or damage them, it makes for strained friendship.

I would never "loan" my toothbrush or anything related to personal hygiene to a stranger or non-family member. We always have spare, new stuff on hand for situations such as a guest who forgot something.
