Designed to emulate a human woman, the eerie robot answered questions on a TV show in the UK this week.
The remarkable creation, which could be set to redefine how humanity interacts with machines, is the latest in a long line of realistic talking robots developed by Texas-based firm Hanson Robotics.

Known as 'Sophia', the female robot possesses a strikingly human-like face which combines the features of actress Audrey Hepburn with those of the wife of the company's CEO, David Hanson.

With the ability to emulate over sixty separate facial expressions, the robot is perhaps the most human-like machine ever created.

Its most recent appearance was on British TV show Good Morning Britain where hosts Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid carried out an interview using a series of pre-determined questions.

"She is sitting next to me blinking - I'm slightly afraid of her, oh my goodness," said Reid.
