Maybe so, but it's difficult to fight the ever-present biased media, which only covers the sensational Christian news like the Westboro Baptist Church, not the common everyday Christian viewpoint.

Yes, but true Christians are not out in the public eye like Westboro or television evangelists. They are not attention seekers, and do not boast. They teach by leading a good life, and doing their deeds outside of the public eye. People are very turned off by "Bible thumpers", so a lot of churches practice the "soft sell" sales approach rather than ramming it down peoples' throats.
Yeah, that's the problem, you're right! Unfortunately, it's one of those darned if you do, darned if you don't situations. If the don't sell it and remain quiet, they don't "defend" themselves or create new members, but if they preach at people, they are thumpers or Jesus freaks or whatever. No really good answer is there?
